Can a book change your life? (a father's perspective)
It is only thanks to my curious wife that I had the great good luck to come in contact with this book. As a first-time Dad of a just two-months-old son it has transformed my connection with him.
Why?
Well, Mums do most of the feeding (and ideally with breastfeeding ALL of it) which means that my ways for my little Jonah to connect with me are very limited indeed. But wait! Believe it or not your little one can indeed communicate (if we pay enough attention!!) by means of his rear end. Jonah waves his legs and I get the message that he needs to pee or poo. Off we go, nice and relaxed just like the book suggests, I hold him over the toilet, say the magic word, and within seconds he produces.
My son is just 8 weeks old, folks!
This book is no hype.
It really works.
Am I 100% successful? No way. Right now it's about 25% of the time.
Does Jonah wear nappies? Almost always, but we use light cotton ones that let us know quickly regarding the times we didn't spot his signals.
But even one successful time in ten is still an incredible bonding experience that is completely obvious on my little boy's face.
He communicates, I respond and he is relieved.
I feel sure this will build a foundation for a lifetime.
This is an opportunity that the permanent Pampers parent simply misses withiout even knowing it, and through no fault of their own.
