Book Reviews of Diana Ross in Central Park - A 25th Anniversary Retrospective

Book Review: The day Diana became a legend.
Summary: 5 Stars

John William Law has provided fans of Diana Ross and New York City's Central Park a wonderful memoir of both the history of the park and the legend's historic making concerts of July 21st and 22nd 1983. In 2006 TV Land presented Diana an award for TV's Greatest Music Moment for the Central Park Concerts. Why,you may ask? The reader learns that during the July 21st concert, that was being broadcast worldwide, an unexpected storm took place and as if scripted for her performance of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," Mother Nature provides the wind...the rain...the storm as backdrop. This prompted Diana's now famous quote "It's taken me a lifetime to get here. I'm not going anywhere!" However it did become necessary for Diana to end the concert. She encouraged the audience to leave peacefully and safely exit the park, bringing her kudos worldwide. We learn of the steps it took to re-plan the concert for the next day and the costs that were incurred and how they would later be repaid. To his credit Mr. Law does an excellent job of debunking the myth that Diana didn't earn her superstar status. After reading this book one wonders why this concert has not yet been released on either DVD or CD.

Summary of Diana Ross in Central Park - A 25th Anniversary Retrospective

Diana Ross took the stage on July 21, 1983 after more than a year of planning an event that she referred to as possibly one of the most important moments in her life and career. Her Central Park show was designed to promote the entertainer, a new album, a concert tour and most importantly a playground for young children. But Mother Nature had other plans and Ross made headlines around the world for battling the stormy weather to perform and take care of her fans. Now, take a look back, 25 years later, at the legendary concert that raised the bar on shows in Central Park and illustrated why Diana Ross is the superstar she is.
