Book Reviews of Descent of Angels (Warhammer 40,000 Novels: Horus Heresy) (Pt. 6)

Book Review: A very good book about The Dark Angels!
Summary: 4 Stars

I'm just about finished reading Decent Of The Angels, and I'm saddened to say that I'm close to the end of a well written book! I use to be a Warhammer 40K player but stopped awhile back. I had always been curious of the history of the Space Marines and This book takes place just before the Horus Heresy and just after Lion El'Johson was discovered by Luther. For people that know the Dark Angels storyline from the table top game, this book is a must have!
Trust me on this, get this book if you enjoyed playing or know of the Dark Angels or you just love the whole Warhammer 40K Universe!

Book Review: A solid entry
Summary: 4 Stars

I've read all of the heresy novels up to this one (just finished) and I'm pretty surprised by the bad reviews. I thought it was very well written, with interesting characters and a good story. I concede that it strays from the larger story arc in some sense, but I think that the Dark Angel schism is part of the heresy, plain and simple, and so you can't just exclude it from the series because it's kind of tangental. Anyway, I liked the book and I think it's certianly worth a read, whether you're reading the series, interested in the Fallen, or just looking for a good 40K book.

Book Review: A good prequel, if slightly frustrating
Summary: 4 Stars

Descent of Angels is most definetly a prequel novel to the Horus Heresy even though it is released after the first three books. It describes the rise of the Dark Angels from before the time of the Imperium and a little after they were discovered by the Emperor. It is a interesting read up until the last chapter where a huge cliffhanger awaits. Hopefully there will be a follow up book to complete the story, but if you are a fan of the Horus Heresy series, you shouldn't skip this book just because of the incompleteness of the story.

Book Review: 40K lovers this is for you
Summary: 4 Stars

If you are a 40K fan and you already know about the world that this book takes place in this is a book for you. It fills in even more of the background for the 40K world. If you are not familier with the 40K universe this is still a good book but lots of the things the auther leaves as previous knowledge will be lost to you and you will not get the full extent of the book. However, if you like action, and don't mind carnage and blood this is a book for you.

Book Review: Less grand in scope than the other novels...
Summary: 4 Stars

This book is less grand in scope than the other novels in the series, but that in no way detracts from the quality of the story. The focus is on life on Caliban prior to the arrival of the Imperium. The Dark Angels needed to have the story written this way. Not only is it a nice change of pace from the other novels, but it explains a critical part of the Dark Angels' history: the relationship between the Lion and Luther.
