Book Reviews of Dear JohnBook Review: Not like the others Summary: 4 Stars
This book was very moving, but it wasn't one of the better Sparks books. And it didn't end in typical Sparks fashion I believe. But still overall, it is a good read.
Book Review: The Power of Love Summary: 4 Stars
What John does is truly powerful and uplifting. Yes, it is sad, but still moving! A great romantic novel that really shows how much you can love.
Book Review: A rollercoaster Summary: 3 Stars
The beginning of the book was kind of slow, and I almost gave up reading "Dear John". I think it was because the growing romance between John and Savannah was so detailed, and lacked any emotional draw for me. I was also wanting to know more about John's father who had Asperger's, and his relationship to him. As I hit the half way point in the book, it became more interesting because John's relationship with Savannah became less about the details of their meeting and more about the romance building between them. Once John leaves for Germany, the book again hits another slow point, but before I knew it I was again quickly turning pages to get to the end of the story. Basically, this book has some high and low points.
My favorite part of the book was Nick Sparks development of John's character. I loved how he ended up being a man of true integrity, even though some of the choices he had to make made me cry. Would I recommend this book? I guess if you have the time, and don't have a stack of books you are wanting to read.
Book Review: Very sad...but maybe not in a very good way... Summary: 3 Stars
I started reading this book last year. The beginning was kind of boring, so after a few months I picked up the book again...and finished it in a few days. The book was overall good with very likeable characters, but the ending...o why so sad? I love Nicholas S.! I've read so many books of his and they were all sad...but heartfilling sad. This was just tragicly sad. I didnt like that. I like to know that love conquers all...and even though they loved each other...they just ended up being unhappy...Ah! Just too sad and depressing. This Nicholas S's book did not leave me feeling that love is the greatest thing in the world, like his other books have. So, if i recommend a book of his to anyone...I wont recommend this one.
Book Review: Great Theme Summary: 3 Stars
I realy enjoyed this book overall. Their were a few parts that were kind of slow, especially in the beginning. But once the story progressed, it got better.
The story starts off as John is a troubled kid, with a father he does not relate too. He is at the beach and falls in love with a girl named Savannah. They hit it off, and hang together for awhile, until he has to go back to germany where he is stationed. He is about to get out of the military and then 911 happened. He wants to do his country a favor or the right thing and reenlist. After he does this, the couples problems start to happen.
The end is good, if you love someone, you do anything to make them happy. No matter what that is.
