Book Review: wow - heartbreaking

At first I was upset reading how the story was going to end in the beginning of the book. I soon was hooked and wanted to see how it was going to end, if they weren't going to end up together. When he met Savannah I didn't originally like her character because of the whole religious thing. I did think Savannah was unrealistic and originally did not like her character. I have to admit when the storyline changed in the end and Savannah ended up being different than she was originally, I liked it. It was good that we got to see how life changes you and all your best plans can be unrealistic when life comes along.
The ending was satisfying although heartbreaking. I loved this book. I think it speaks to a wide variety of audiences that love does not always go as planned and people change. Ideally I would want to be together, but I guess I am glad they are not for the purposes of this story.

One would think that the Army, the War and lovelorn feelings are quite cliche - Nicholas sparks again hits the nail right on with the hammer. I was gripped by the prologue in the store, and bought it simply because "Three Weeks with my Brother" was unavailable. When I began reading, I couldn't stop. I was up in the late hours of night finishing every last word of this novel. I read it in one sitting...just over four hours curled up - engrossed in the story. I cried, I laughed and I was angry. I felt sentiment and understanding just as the characters do for each other. Absolutely read this novel. It's filled with understanding and sacrifice and things that we wish we could be.Book Review: don't read the amazon reviews

There are too many spoilers in the comments by other reviewers, you will enjoy this masterpiece a lot more, if like me, you don't know how it concludes. I picked up the audio book at the library read by Holter Graham (to perfection) and fell into a very realistic tale of Savannah the pretty college student and John a soldier on two-week leave from the Army. The easy "down-home" storytelling and dialogue was so real it almost feels like it's not made up. Nicholas Sparks is a fantastic writer who I've enjoyed before but Dear John was easily on a higher level of entertainment value for this reader.Book Review: Say Hello to Romance's and Goodbye to Fantasy's.

Dear John is a book about a man named John Tryee that falls in love with a women named Savannah Lynn Curtis. When John Tryee meets savannah he knows he is in love with her. I gave Dear John by Nicholas Sparks a 5 out od 5 because it is one of the most intellegent books I have ever read. Most people don't like romances because the are cheesy and unbeleiveable. Dear John is so real. The book even takes place during a real time period 9/11/01. Dear John is an amazing book and Nicholas Sparks is a very talented writer in times in the book I even cried.Book Review: A Good Love Story

Nicholas Sparks gives us another great love story that has many unexpected turns and twists. 2 people fall in and out of love, and a father that no seems to understand. john's father is so obsessed with his coin collection, and does not know how to respond to the real word. John meets an exciting girl names Savannah, and the story unravels. You will go through John's military career and his constant love and yearning for his girl. After 911, things change and the woman he loves marries someone else. i won't spoil the story. Read it for yourself.
