Book Reviews of Dear JohnBook Review: Dear John Summary: 5 Stars
" Dear John the letter read. And with those two words, a heart was broken and two lives changed forever." That was a quote from the book Dear John, by Nicholas Sparks. In the book the main character John, a rebel who could care less, comes home from being in the army and falls madly in love with a woman named Savannah. Savannah is kind and gentle but she's also responsible which is a change for John. He first meets her on the beach where he saves her purse from the water. When he has to go back to the army Savannah is sad but says she will wait for him. But When 9/11 happens john feels he has to rejoin the army. Will the couple last even though he has to stay?
Dear John is realistic fiction, but to me it was a sad romantic book that keeps you hoping for a happy ending. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who loves sad movies, because this book is just like watching one. Dear John is around a 7th grade reading level. Dear John is a very powerful book, its one of my favorites by Nicholas Sparks.
Book Review: Spark's Even Outdoes Himself Summary: 5 Stars
Dear John could arguably be Spark's best novel to date. As perhaps the greatest love storyteller of our time, the New York Times Best Seller tops even his own works.
Dear John attempts tells a story of true love and loss and all of the emotions that go along with them. Set in modern times, it paints an accurate picture of post-9/11 life and its effect on relationships.
In gripping detail, Spark's lays out the story of John and Savannah and a summer romance that would last until the end of time. But love is not without its tragedies, and these two would be faced with the hardest ones of all. Would their love be strong enough to survive? Or would time and distance allow love to be overcome by everyday adversities? What sacrifice would be too much to ask?
In the end, both Savannah and John learn the true meaning of love. Both learn all too well, that love can only be valued by what you would give to show it.
A true must-read that will tug at the very fabric of your heart.
Book Review: He Can Write Summary: 5 Stars
No doubt about it. Nicholas Sparks is a good storyteller. From the first page, I want to be left alone to read undisturbed. The story moves along from scene to scene in a smooth fashion.
"What does it mean to truly love another?" The answer is found in this a love story about a man's life, but this is not an expected romance between a man and a woman. It's easy to see that Savannah and John are meant for each other; however, love goes beyond romance. The relationship between John and his father is also closely examined. The friendship of John and Tony, his army buddy, is believable.
The story takes place in North Carolina and spans several years, including the 9/11 attack. Autism and Asperger's conditions are written about with great care, giving me a bit of an education. The pain of old age and illness are included. The dialogue is well written; the characters are realistic.
Although there is the gratuitous sex scene, I liked this book. This book should be read!
Book Review: My Favorite Nicholas Sparks Book Summary: 5 Stars
Dear John is about a young man named John Tyree, it starts off in 2000, he is in the army and spending his leave with his quiet and introverted father, when he meets the girl of his Dreams Savannah Lynn Curtis. Savannah and John share a summer romance before he goes back to the army. The two stuggle with a long distance relationship and try to make it work, but as 9/11/01 happens he re-ups in the army, and the long distance wears on there relationship. And he eventually gets the Dear John letter while he is fighting in Iraq. Years later he looks up savannah to figure out what went wrong. This I like this story because it's relatable, and understandable. The characters aren't perfect, and i like that they have flaws and they aren't cookie cutter characters that usually see in his books. It's not a story based on two people romantic feeling for each other, but it also taps in to other issues, very real issues that many of us deal with such as the war in iraq and autism.
Book Review: Dear John Review - TL Summary: 5 Stars
This book was a definite tear jerker. I read the entire novel in less than a weekend; it was very difficult to put it down. It is about a military boy who was always in trouble as a kid, who falls in love with a beautiful Christian girl who inspires and intrigues him. She is in town for the summer buiding houses with her church when he came across her on the beach, saving her purse after it had fallen in the ocean. The book maps the story of their love and his homelife with a father who is incapable of social interaction. John goes back to the military after meeting his new love interest, with intentions of marrying her after his contract ended. Little did they know, the tradgedies of September 11th would soon hit and he would sign-up again for another military term, which inevitably seals their fate. You definitely need a box of Kleenex to read this book, but it's one of Sparks' best for sure!
