Book Reviews of Dean and Me: (A Love Story)Book Review: Written from the Heart Summary: 5 Stars
After reading the book in a day it was evident that Jerry Lewis wrote this from the heart. It is probably the closest that we'll ever get to knowing the inside story about this incredible duo. Many probably prejudged the book as a way for Lewis to canonize himself to the public, but that couldn't be further from the truth. The stories about their feelings and friendship for each other, their ups and downs holds your attention throughout. Add to it tales about the mob, families, club acts, drugs, booze, women, movies and their solo careers will help you understand what they went through as a team and as individuals. Lewis let us in on a fabulous story that will live on through many generations. You did good, pally!
Book Review: Interesting and well written Summary: 5 Stars
I found this book to be to the point and honest. It dealt with the relationship between Martin and Lewis without all the unnecessary, insignificant things, that are in most books like this, that are usually only of interest to the author. Jerry Lewis makes clear his love, thanks and admiration of Dean Martin but is honest about his faults, as well as his own, in relation to the demise of their partnership. A really well written and interesting book, written from the inside, about one of the best known duo's in show business.
Book Review: 5 Stars
It's hard to believe but Martin & Lewis were as popular as the Beatles at the height of their pairing in the 40's and 50's. Reading this book gives a real insight into the extraordinary pairing of two disparate yet made for each other entertainers.
The best part of the book is the love that shines through from Jerry to Dean. It's clear that Jerry feels that Dean made the act work, even though Jerry has been accused of "taking over". I am glad that it is now on the record that it was a real PARTNERSHIP.
Book Review: A facinating read Summary: 5 Stars
This book is a facinating insight into the lives of two friends...and into the world of entertainment of the 1950's. After reading this book I just *had* to rush out a watch some of the "Colgate Comedy Hour", as well as the Dean and Martin film "Actors and Models".
FYI, the book club I belonged to had a split decision about this book (and about Jerry Lewis in general): half loved the book, half hated it. So YMMV.
Book Review: FABULOUS Summary: 5 Stars
Well, I just got this book, at Barnes & Noble for $6.00. Sorry Amazon. However, if you love these two guys as much as I do, you will love reading this book. This book is written by Jerry Lewis and so far I love they way he is writing it.
I just started reading it so I really can't give you a complete review. But hey, It's Dean and Jerry, need I say more.
You'll enjoy this book very much!
