The Cd is awesome!!! I think it's great to hear one of my favorite author's voice when he reads his stuff!!! You really get the inflection of what he is saying!!! If you are a David Sedaris fan of any kind...GET THIS C.D.!!!!Book Review: Not his best stuff

This CD is good, but not as funny as most of Sedaris's other stuff. If you can only buy one CD by him, this should not be it.Book Review: 5 stars for white americans, 1 star for black americans = 3

I laughed pretty hard at this CD the first time I listened to it, but one line of "6-8 black men" bothered me and made me realize that David Sedaris is aiming his humor at white America and people like me should not bother trying to enjoy it. It was the line where he said something to the effect of "most white americans would barricade the door if 6-8 black men tried to enter their house". well, duh, but I would think most americans would barricade their door if anyone tried to enter and here David Sedaris turns black people into a private joke among white people. Now I don't think he intended to do that, but I think you would have to put yourself in the shoes of a black person to realize how offensive this line was. I will not buy David Sedaris again because of this. obviously he is not writing for me. so, maybe it is unfair to ignore the rest of the CD. yes, it was funny. but that one line overshadowed the rest.Book Review: I didn't laugh once!

Maybe Sedaris doesn't translate into audio for me. The books make me laugh plenty, but I couldn't get through the first ten minutes of this CD. I didn't laugh once. Maybe he's just too deadpan...
Also I noticed he's just reading straight from his writings. So there is no interaction with the audience. Perhaps that's what I need to hear from a live "performance".
