Book Reviews of David Sedaris Live at Carnegie Hall

Book Review: Car audio will never be the same.
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this cd. So much so that I've kept it in my car cd player since I received it, listening to it over and over while driving to and from work, or doing weekend errands. I'm at the point now where I don't want to listen to droning talk radio or FM stations anymore. All I want to do is listen to David Sedaris relate his stories in the unique way that he does. To hear the stories related by David, in the tone and delivery they were meant to be, is a true pleasure, one that stays with the listener long after the CD has ended. I wish the CD was longer, but I've already ordered the box set. I've read all the stories in the box set, but want to hear them straight from David himself. If there were 100 hours of David reading, I'd be a happy woman.

Book Review: Elegant Hilarity
Summary: 5 Stars

David Sedaris is an author who wanders around the world, experiencing life, and then writing about it in funny and touching ways. The first story he tells on this CD epitomizes that, as it's about how his family thinks about him and his little notebook, what life might be like if it was made into a movie, a story about the death of a dog, and ends with ... well, you'll just have to listen to the CD to find out.

Sedaris is an excellent word smith, and he is quite the storyteller. From lunatic birds to Christmas in the Netherlands, from peeing in your pants to losing love, David Sedaris is able to entertain, enlighten, and communicate with ease. I highly recommend buying this CD.

Book Review: Good lord this is wonderful.

I made the mistake of listening to this at 1 in the morning while my roommate was asleep. By far the hardest thing I've had to do in my life was keep from waking her up with my laughing. Sedaris' performance is simply hilarious. I daresay, this might be even better than the boxed set. His interaction with the audience is what makes this disc outstanding; there's a chemistry that is missing in the solo recordings.

I played "Six to Eight Black Men" for my roommate, and found that it is truly a worthwhile buy, even if you've never read anything by him. (She was unfamiliar with the work of Sedaris until that night that prompted this review.)

Book Review: David Sedaris is a national treasure.

It is taking me forever to get through this CD! I listen to audio books on my daily 2-hour commute, so I have plenty of time to finish this CD off in one day, but here's the problem. After about 10 minutes of gut-wrenching, open-mouthed guffawing, in heavy traffic, I just have to turn it off and listen to Norah Jones until my fits of giggles subsides. I'm sure that anyone who has seen me in uncontrollable laughter--all by myself--in my car must think I'm insane. But I don't care. David Sedaris make me happier than a case of Paxil. This is his best writing, and you MUST experience him in audio version to get the full impact.

Book Review: An Echo of My Predecessors

So there it was, out of the blue, a GIFT for donating to NPR....

I LOVE this disc. Like many, I am very familiar with David Sedaris from his writings. Hearing him read it takes it to a whole new level.

I did want to mention one track which hasn't yet gained comment...the "Jewish Conspiracy" that is NPR. What could they have been thinking asking someone with David's sense of whimsy to write an introduction. I've no idea of the final version, but surely think they should have stuck with this! (I love Terry Gross, but she could use some lightening up).

Anyway, do get it. You assuredly won't regret it.
