Book Reviews of Dauntless (The Lost Fleet, Book 1)Book Review: Great fun Summary: 5 Stars
I can't say there's much depth here, but it's oh so enjoyable a read if you're into this genre. It's the classical story of fighting and surviving against much greater forces and against all odds. Nothing original, but I loved his style and flew through the first three in the series. Just ordered the fourth. He gets a little off point sometimes (in particular when a certain relationship develops later)...but so what!
Book Review: You Won't Be Able To Stop Reading It Summary: 5 Stars
After more than 50 years of reading (and loving) SF books by the masters (Asimov, Blish, Clarke, et al), I've finally found a new author to add to the list: Jack Campbell.
I couldn't put Dauntless: The Lost Fleet down. In addition to being terrifically written from a stylistic perspective, it's both a thrilling war story and a wonderful trip into the unknown.
Don't miss it!
Book Review: Excellent Read Summary: 5 Stars
I have read all six books in this series and it is an excellent story line. Although the story is "military S.F.", which I do not normally read, the writing fully engages the reader immediately and maintains your interest throughout the six books. The characters are well developed the military aspect does not over shadow the characters in a very believable universe.
Excellent Read
Book Review: Entertaining, fascinating war science fiction scenarios Summary: 5 Stars
I had a great time while reading John Campbell's "The lost fleet: Dauntless". The book is captivating from the first page. Human and army relationships among characters are very well drawn as well as strategy and tactics. A between-the-lines anti-war message is latent in the text, somehow like in the Haldeman's "Forever war". I am looking anxiously for the second part due soon.
Book Review: Excellent structured and exciting tale Summary: 5 Stars
A well thought out Universe, human frailty, terrific fleet action and the hint of a great menace awaiting in the wings make this an enjoyable read which is impossible to put down. The characters are well fleshed out with a couple of subplots linking the main thrust of action.
I am looking forward to the succeeding books of the series and have ordered them both.
