Book Review: Outstanding Space Opera
Summary: 5 Stars
Very much in line with David Weber's works, this is excellent space opera. Black Jack Geary is a likeable and interesting character. Sometimes the characters are a little cardboard or one-dimensional, but overall this is good, fast-paced action with an interesting plot and lots of conflicts, both internally and externally.
There are plenty of reviews here that cover the storylines, so I'll just throw my hat in the ring with a 5 star review and recommend it if you even remotely like Weber's sci-fi.
Book Review: A fun read

This book is an excellent piece of Military Sci Fi and a blast to read. One of the best things in my opinion is that it doesn't pretend to be more than that. The main character is likable and approachable. Although the bad guys are typical, and the situations are predictable, they are appropriate for the story. All in all I thought it was a great read and would serve very well as a 'palette cleanser' between heavier (physically and mentally) fare. I look forward to reading the second book in this series.Book Review: Superb military sci-fi

Our hero is at once, larger than life, but also very human with all the issues that carries. The story is well driven; the space combat is at just the right level of detail and there is a lot of it. The political maneuvering element is there and plays a role but is neatly woven into the story to never become an endless dissertation on politics.
And it's just fun.
Glad that Amazon pointed me to it with the ever present "Other people who bought this item also bought ..."

This book is an excellent read. From start to finish the author takes you on an adventure of a lifetime. It starts with unforgettable action and by the second and third chapters, you feel like you're on the command deck sitting right there with 'Black Jack' Geary. This book is also more than just another military sci-fi adventure, it also takes a slight, yet engaging look at what war can do to our society's beliefs, honor, and ideals. Once you pick this up, you won't wanna put it down!Book Review: EXCELLENT!

This book starts with a BANG! well several which land the main character in charge of a beat up fleet deep in enemy space. From begining to end there is plenty here for a SCI FI fan. Mostly I appreciated the insights into leadership and the interesting ways "JACK BLACK" deals with troublesome junior officers. A wonderful book, and if you like it as much as I did there are plenty more in the series all about equal to this!
