Book Reviews of Darkly Dreaming Dexter

Book Review: Darkly Dreaming Dexter
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the best book I have read in a long time! And I read a lot of books!! I find the author Jeff Lindsay's writing style quite refreshing as he was able to make me truly like this serial killer who only kills bad people we all would love in some way see "get it". His introspective narrative places you right in the mind of Dexter feeling his emotions or shall I say lack of emotions. Although I would say this book is dark it is not without comedy. Each time Dexter selects another victim I find myself cringing at whats to come but yet looking forward to it as well!! Truly mind gripping!!! I could not put the book down and can't wait to start on the next book, Dearly Devoted Dexter which I hope is not the last. I'm also hooked on the T.V. series starring one of my favorite actors Michael C. Hall.

Book Review: Deadly Dexter
Summary: 5 Stars

Many people claim that when a movie or TV show is based on a book, the book is always better. However, in the case of Darkly Dreaming Dexter, I believe they are equals.

I was only recently introduced to the character, but I watched both seasons in about 2 weeks. I decided to pick up the books after that.

I don't want to give away too many details, but the show did differ from the book on several key points. I view this as a good thing because no matter which you encounter first, it keeps both experiences fresh.

If I had one complaint about the book, it'd be the length. It weighs in around 300 pages or so, but it could've hit 500 and still would have felt right. Thankfully, Jeff Lindsay wrote two other books to continue developing Devious Dexter's darkness.

Book Review: Most Absorbing Novel I've Read in a Long Time!
Summary: 5 Stars

This novel was great fun and a wonderful read. I am a fan of the series so was interested in reading the books too. I had heard that the series and books were different but that is a good thing. This is not a novelization of a TV series. The story is quite absorbing and is very similar to the show, but actually the show has more details and plot complications. That is not a bad thing. This book has economy of writing and it keeps you reading from beginning to end. I loved the book as much as the series and would highly recommend both of them. What a great book and I haven't read something this fun for years. Dexter is a great first start for a book series. I hope the others are just as good or close.

Book Review: DEXTER IS MEANER IN THE BOOK!
Summary: 5 Stars

Still love him tho! Im not a fiction book reader. I used to never see the point, until i have slowed down a little and became a stay at home mommy, & not as stressed any more and are actually starting to find things i enjoy besides being obsessed with working all the time. Like i said Not a fiction book reader but i used to Just usually read self helping, motivational, etiquette & books with info. But i can follow this book nicely and in one night before bedtime i found myself on chapter 3! I was proud! Because im a person that gets very distracted easily. Theres nothing like murder mystery before bedtime read! :) Im enjoying cozying up with this book.

Book Review: Darkly Delightful Dexter!
Summary: 5 Stars

Oh! I REALLY enjoyed this book! It had so much of the cadence of the show - or, rather, I suppose it should be the other way around, but since I saw the show first, Dexter's inner narrative sounds like Michael C. Hall's voice to me... Anyways, the narrative presence is so strong... all in all making a truly excellent book. And the differences between the TV show and the book were pretty substantial! Deborah's role in the end... LaGuerta's future... I just feel like I am reading the real story and the TV show is some sort of alternate Dexter... I am just so VERY curious as to where the series goes next!! Two more books of Darling Dexter - how fun!!
