"Dance of Stones" tells of a spiritual journey that the author took with a friend in 1998. Kenn Day is a shaman. His traveling company, Soli, was just beginning to seek out her spiritual path. As Kenn and Soli travel, they end up visiting many sacred places, especially those with standing stones. Kenn beautifully describes the landscapes and the experiences that he and Soli had in these places.
Even though Soli was with Kenn as a traveling companion, as a shaman, he still was able to guide her on her path. His guidance helped her to broaden the way that she views the world. In his writings, he states, "From a shamanic perspective, the world we perceive is the world we live in, thus it is real - even if only to us." The shaman helps others in the process of transforming the world that they live in. Even while sharing the same journey, Kenn and Soli had very different experiences.
It was interesting for me to read about how the experience was affecting both Kenn and Soli. Kenn is a shaman and shared things from a shamanic perspective. He did an excellent job in educating me on what was happening on a spiritual level. At the end of each chapter, he includes a section called, "Deepening." This is where he steps out of the story and explains what is happening and how it relates to both their journey and how it can relate to our own journey. For people keeping journals, these sections provide excellent opportunities to help you process your thoughts about what you are learning.
From Soli's perspective, she began the trip as a serious businesswoman, who was taking some time out to dabble in spirituality. As she progressed on her journey, her life began to change dramatically. She did not always welcome the changes that were occurring; however, Kenn was there to help her process what was happening so that she could see it on a higher level. For myself, as I have gone through initiations, I have found myself experiencing the same discomforts as Soli. I even would feel a lot of anger, which I did not understand. Soli was fortunate to have Kenn there to help her process those feelings. I wish I could have read this years ago so that I would have had a better understanding, or I would have realized that I needed a spiritual teacher to assist me with the process.
I highly recommend "Dance of Stones" for people at every level of their spiritual journey. It is such a beautiful story, and I feel that everyone will find something valuable within it to help them on their path. It was the author Kenn Day's goal to assist the reader with making their own world larger; he definitely achieved this with me.
