Book Reviews of DaemonBook Review: Amazing book Summary: 5 Stars
I am an IT guy, so I was leery when I first saw this book. What amazed me is the technical detail, but in a way that doesn't make it too boring for a non IT person. It's almost like when reading a Tom Clancy novel about all the inside and out of politics. It's just enough to keep you interested without losing interest. Daniel Suarez is a genius writer. I kid you not. It almost felt like a production and not just a novel. It has been a while since I read a book as interesting as this. I just downloaded Freedom (TM) today!
Book Review: It's up to an intrepid detective to disable a nightmare in this novel, packed with twists and turns Summary: 5 Stars
Readers who enjoy high-tech thrillers and libraries catering to them will find this a fine novel of blogging and tech sector intrigue. Originally self-published in 2006 under a pseudonym, DAEMON became an underground hit, telling of a legendary computer game designer who releases a swarm of web bots into the internet when he dies: programs that recruit people, programs that kill. It's up to an intrepid detective to disable a nightmare in this novel, packed with twists and turns.
Book Review: A Techie Thriller Summary: 5 Stars
I've been waiting for a while to pick up this book after hearing a talk about narrow AI by the author, and I wasn't disappointed. There were a few rough patches here and there, but I enjoyed myself from the beginning to the end. A great first novel, and I'm looking forward to the next one already, whenever it may be.
Suarez really knows his technology, which made this a great novel for me. I'm not sure, however, if a non-technical person would get as much out of it.
Book Review: Engrossing and difficult to categorize Summary: 5 Stars
The book starts out as an intelligent techno-thriller, but it morphs into something more. Hidden within the action is some gentle commentary on 21st Century society. The author hints at a dystopian future that is uncomfortably believable.
The book appears to be well-researched, but since some of the technology is unfamiliar, it's hard for a layman to say. You will not regret reading this book, although it may leave you with a feeling of uneasiness about the future.
Book Review: My highest recommendation... Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent novel. I cannot praise it enough. This is truly a "literary" thriller, melding philosophy, technology, poli-sci and social criticism into a cracking good read. I finished the book less than 30 minutes ago, yet I am already anticipating the sequel. Mr. Suarez, I want Roy's death avenged!
Jeff Gurner's narration was brilliant. He moves into my top 5 narrators with this production. He is an excellent voice artist, exactly what Suarez' novel demands.
