Book Reviews of Cursor's Fury (Codex Alera, Book 3)

Book Review: Fantastic Third Novel in the Series!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love Jim Butcher. He is now my all time favorite author. I have read hundreds of novels in my 54 years, and he just has blown me away. I read all ten of the Dresden Files in about 3 months (waiting to get the latest novel in that series) and this is the third Alera book I've read.
I love all the main cters in the series, Tavi, Max, Bernard, Isana, Kita and especially Amara.
As a matter of fact, when I read the first novel I was hoping she would be the main character in the series. Butcher has tremendous pacing and his action scenes make you think you are right there in the midst of the action. I didn't think I would like this series before I read it, because of the premise of the furies, but it grew on me immediately. As a matter of fact i only started reading it because I am waiting for the new Dresden Files book to become available at my library.
I am so glas I started this series. It is every bit as good as the Dresden Files, the characters are every bit fleshed out and Butcher makes you care about them. I give every one of the 13 Jim Butcher books I have read 5 stars, easily.

Book Review: Keep your day open...
Summary: 5 Stars

These books keep you seated--you're going to want to keep your day open when you start reading them, because you're not going to want to do a whole lot else.

I started reading Butcher's other series, and, sadly, really hated them; so, when someone coersed me into reading them, I was completely surprised when I fell in love. It's so rare in the fantasy-genre to find a book with so much plot.

I'd recommend these books to everyone who likes a fast paced-action/adventure, political intrigue, and good character development and anyone who's a fan of the genre, especially: Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time and Weis/Hickman's early Dragon Lance books.

Book Review: Fast and furious
Summary: 5 Stars

Much as I feel about the Dresden Files, Codex Alera gets better and better with each book. As another reviewer mentioned, the first book "Furies of Calderon" was pretty good but it didn't set me on fire. Still I eventually picked up "Academ's Fury" and I kind of got hooked, and now with "Cursor's Fury" I couldn't put the book down at all until I finished. I have never read a series quite like this where the pace is just non-stop. There are no dead spots, things just keep on rocking. The plot continues to unfold steadily, and it all fits together sharply. Good book! Soon I will finish the existing books and be on the wait list for First Lord's Fury.

Book Review: Pleasantly suprised
Summary: 5 Stars

I have waited a long time before purchasing the first book of the codex Alera, because I was afraid it would be a disappointment compared to the Dresden files. I have to admit however that the codex Alera books are at least as well written as the Dresden files. The books contain everything you could want as a fantasy fan. A likeable hero, good supporting characters, a plot spanning all the books, while at the same time each instalment has it's own plot and of course a very well thought out world. I sincerely hope Mr. Butcher will keep on producing books of this high standing quality, be it the Dresden files or fantasy books like the codex Alera.

Book Review: Another Butcher Grandslam!
Summary: 5 Stars

I started reading this series a few scant months ago, and the entire line of books reads very fast. I can't put them down once I start a new one. I would definately recommend the Codex Alera series to any avid fantasy reader. I am anxiously waiting the fourth installment, Captain's Fury in two weeks.

If you were a fan of the Drizzt novels, you will absolutely love this line of works. It is a truly unique perspective on the use of magic, and Tavi will quickly become one of your new hero's.
