Book Reviews of Cure Unknown: Inside the Lyme EpidemicBook Review: Best Book On Lyme and Controversy Summary: 5 Stars
By far the best and most comprehensive book ever written on lyme disease and the intense controversy surrounding it. There are a lot of books being written about lyme disease and as a lyme patient going on 8 years, I must warn other lyme patients, especially new patients, to be careful what you read. I highly recommend CURE UNKNOWN. Its all you need to know written in a way that takes away the mass confusion one steps into when diagnosed with lyme. I have the highest respect for her courageous investigative journalism and for her tenacity to write this book while being treated for lyme and also dealing with her two sons lyme disease and her husbands lyme disease! Talk about a nightmare situation, but it is becoming more and more common for entire family's to have lyme disease! CURE UNKNOWN is the SOS I have been hoping for! PW and Cure Unknown is a GOD SEND!
Book Review: The Lyme Disease Controversy Summary: 5 Stars
This excellently written, highly readable account explains how the complex interplay of egos, politics, big money, intellectual bias, hubris, and selective rejection of pertinent evidence in the refereed medical literature have denied many Lyme disease patients timely and accurate diagnosis and prompt, appropriate treatment. The majority of the medical community appears to be appallingly misinformed about this complex spirochetal infection and their widespread collective ignorance has prolonged many patients' suffering and often, financial hardship. The net result is a major public health problem that threatens to become both larger and more widespread as our climate warms, deer and tick populations multiply, and state and federal agencies misunderstand and hence, underestimate the serious medical implications of misdiagnosed and untreated Lyme.
Book Review: A must read Summary: 5 Stars
I have read at least 5 other Lyme related books, while each of them has their merit, Cure Unknown Cure Unknown: Inside the Lyme Epidemic contains unbiased views of our current struggle with the CDC and finding a cure for this ravinging disease. For those of us affected by Lyme, it is insightful, caring, empathtic and powerful. I think every medical doctor should be required to read this. I think the CDC needs to read this. My hats off to the author, she could have lost her temper so many times throughout the writing of this book, but it never shows. I know I'm angry about this and how it has affected my life. Anyhow, I highly recommend this book for everyone, even those who have not been exposed to this disease - Lyme
Book Review: Buy this book for everyone you know!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Both my husband and very good friend have Lyme disease and a good friend of ours just bought us this book. I have not been able to put this book down!!!! We had two birthday parties to go to this weekend and we were reading it at the parties, we were reading it in bed before we went to sleep and before and during our morning coffee. I have heard bits and pieces of the information she has in this book, but she puts it together so amazingly well and it is so easy to read and understand. She is such an amazing writer. We are buying copies for every friend. In fact, we would really like to find it on CD so that our lazy family members will perhaps listen to it if they won't put the energy into reading it. (Hopefully they won't read this, if you do, well, we love you;-)
To summarize: BUY THIS BOOK
Book Review: This is a must read!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is an EXCELLENT book! It explains the history of the lyme disease controversy, and the corruption of the Infectious Disease Society. Many patients are suffering because of the IDSA's flawed guidelines to lyme disease detection and treatment. Lyme disease is an epidemic that is expanding. Believe me, you don't want to become one of these patients that have to fight for a diagnosis and proper treatment-and told that it's "all in your head". It is appalling that we live in the United States, and yet we are treated this way. Until you come down with an illness, such as lyme disease, you may never really realize how corrupt our society, and the medical establishment is. It's all about money and profit for the pharmaceutical companies.
