Book Reviews of Cure Unknown: Inside the Lyme Epidemic

Book Review: Please give a copy of this book to your family doctor!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Three cheers for Pamela Weintraub's Cure Unknown, the first book that accurately presents an objective and in-depth look at the historic obstacles to progress in Lyme disease research and treatment. This book significantly investigates how the disease has been mischaracterized, mishandled, and poorly defined by many so-called "experts" for over three long decades.

In a rush to produce patents (and vaccines) before patient care, well-meant scientists have helped contribute to an epidemic of neglected, chronically disabled, and in some cases, cognitively impaired children and adults. What's more, after endless political infighting over practically all aspects of the disease, the bottomline remains: To date there is no 100% reliable diagnostic test; no 100% reliable treatment regimen; no 100% reliable cure or test for cure.

Please consider giving an extra copy of this book to your family doctor. It will go a long way towards providing much-needed information, and will hopefully reverse much of the stigma involved in clinically diagnosing and treating people with Lyme disease and related tick-borne illnesses.

Book Review: No alternative medicine
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a wonderful book, especially for those who don't want to leave the world of allopathic medicine. Her writing is excellent and it clearly lays out the problems of our medical system when confronting a new epidemic like lyme. Because this is so strictly allopathic, it is a good resource for doctors, and I wish every single one of them would read it!

The hidden weaknesses, in my mind after spending 3 years in the world of lyme recovery, are that there is no mention of the Bowen Q-ribb, the very best diagnostic tool of all for lyme; nor are there mentions of some of the amazingly successful herbal/nutritional protocols - namely Buhner's herbs and the lymestrategies salt/c protocol, which is what caused my recovery.

When the doctors fail you, you can either continue to fight for access to antibiotics that may be having unsatisfactory results anyways, or give up on MD's altogether and go the alternative route, where many are finding their way to health by learning to read their own bodies instead of listening to "experts". This book in no way tells that story, but it is a growing movement.

Book Review: 5 Stars from a patient, veterinarian
Summary: 5 Stars

Diagnosed with chronic Lyme in 2004, while I was pregnant, threw me into the Lyme wars. I have read lots of books, articles and web sites about Lyme. Weintraub's book, however, is above all the rest. Her factual details, combined with personal experiences, make for fantastic reading. I have ordered copies for my family, as reading this book will help them understand the Lyme wars, and understand the varying bits of information they receive from different sources - media, friends, MDs, patients.

I have done months of oral antibiotics and weeks of IV antibiotics. Even with a CDC positive test, getting aggressive treatment was difficult. I have now found the best success with Eastern medicine. Like Weintraub, I put my faith in new testing, and unbiased scientists, to lead us down a better path. I also hope that a One Medicine approach, combining the knowledge of human and veterinary medicine as it applies to infectious disease, will yield breakthroughs.

This is a fantastic book. Buy more than one copy, as you will want to spread the word.

Book Review: Brilliantly written; an engrossing journey through the mire of Lyme Diesease
Summary: 5 Stars

This book has to be the most comprehensive compilation of material available regarding this hidious and pandemic disease. Kudos to Pam Weintraub for not only overcoming her own duel with Lyme disease, but for putting this together in a chohesive, educational and sobering way. Brilliantly written - this book is a must read for anyone suspecting Lyme disease. As others have mentioned in their reviews, this book needs to be shared with doctors everywhere. I am giving my copy to my Internist (at his request) and purchasing another copy to share with my Cardiologist & Neurologist. Having been recently diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease & Babesiosis myself, I found this book oddly comforting from a patient' perspective. As anyone who has dealt with chronic Lyme already knows themselves, there is a madness involved within the medical community that a patient will endure before a diagnosis is ever reached. This book has provided me a veritable wealth of information.

Thank you Pam for your courage, perserverance and compassion in telling this story!

Book Review: timely exposé of a growing epidemic of Lyme Disease
Summary: 5 Stars

Pam Weintraub, author and senior editor who covered bio-medicine and science issues for decades, lives with Lyme Disease consequences herself, exposes the understanding and misunderstandings of the disease with such clarity that every reader can and should understand the vital importance of being informed on how to prevent and/or deal with Lyme Disease. Her stories motivate one to utilize all resources to combat ignorance of the potential devastation of Lyme and the heartless greed of those who care more for their large profit (including doctors, insurance companies, pharmaceuticals, etc.) than for the lives of babies, children, and adults of every race, creed, and color. She also reveals many inspirational heroes (again including doctors, nurse practitioners, and others) who sacrifice their own lives and livelihood to benefit those suffering from the infections carried by a tiny tick. I recommend the reading of this well-written, even-handed, thoroughly researched factual book as soon as possible. It is an eye-opener!
