Book Review: Alex Cross IS Human!
Summary: 5 Stars
Okay, I've read most of the reviews and I can completely understand that, after 13 books, becoming accustomed to a character's traits/personality/what-have-you.
However, despite his previously illustrated ability to take a step back and analyze, this time, Cross does NOT have the luxury to even have the time to do anything but deal with the essentially rapid-fire events that happen minutes after he steps off the airplane.
Further, and equally if not moreso important, the brutality within which Patterson marinates this title ... whether the reader "likes" it or not ... is FAR from the "unrealistic" many reviewers have critiqued. While the conspiracy MAY be a bit contrived, the daily without notice brutality in Africa is more real than anything in any previous Alex Cross novel; as is the blind-eye the rest of the world has turned to it.
Throwing Cross into that world was an assault to his senses, and he reacted in more human ways than his character ever has in any previous title ... a fact that has elevated him even higher on my personal all-time favorite characters.
Thank you Mr. Patterson for not candy-coating the realities of Africa and giving us an Alex Cross who, in this title, is more human than ever before.
