Book Reviews of Cross Bones (Temperance Brennan Novels)

Book Review: Much better than the new P. Cornwell
Summary: 4 Stars

I liked this book alot and found myself not willing to put it down until I was done. I do find that the author can get alittle over-technical for a fictional novel, but all in all I believe it is a fine read.

Book Review: Disappointing ending
Summary: 3 Stars

This was my first Kathy Reichs book and I will definitely pick up another one of her books. "Cross Bones" was an intriguing mystery based on forensic anthropology. It was a fast-paced, gripping story... up until the end. I felt like there were a lot of loose ends that weren't tied up neatly. I still had a lot of questions involving "Masada Max" and possible conspiracies involving the Vatican. Having said that, I'll still read her other books, I really liked the characters Tempe and Det. Ryan, they were good together and I enjoyed the humor they shared together. I think Ms. Reichs did an excellent job of helping me get to know the characters and I'm looking forward to reading more of her books.

Book Review: Cross Bones - not worth the complications
Summary: 3 Stars

Cross Bones started out with an autopsy in Montreal and ended up with death and deceit in Istrael. The intervening sections blend forensic anthropology, biblical history, Jewish history, romance, and the curiosity about a skeleton nicknamed "Masada Max." While easy page turning, I wished the book had been a little less complicated. I would have slowed down and really tried to understand what Ms. Reichs was trying to explain, but after awhile, I just read fastand cruised through to the end. The constant weaving of plot and subplot and real-time action with historical forensic evidence was too much to mentally handle and like some reviews mentioned, not emotional drawing. Overall, a good read but could have been better...

Reviewer note: I like to just give my opinion on the book in a review, not give a long summary of the plot. Why give away the action? Reading the book is the way to find out what happens, while reading the review should tell if the book is your type or wouth your time.

Book Review: A must read!
Summary: 5 Stars

If you liked the Da Vinci Code, you'll like this book alot! I couldn't put it down. It keeps you interested and I didn't have to wait until the middle of the book to get "hooked". Kathy Reichs is definately one of my favorite writers now.

Book Review: Not as enjoyable as the others for me
Summary: 3 Stars

I have all the Kathy Reichs books and love them all, and the new TV series, but I didn't enjoy this one as much as the others. I studied to be an archaeologist, so that aspect was interesting, but for some reason I just didn't like this one as much. I think it was the fact that Tempe didn't seem to be as emotionally invested in the outcome as usual. Obviously these kind of professionals become invested in their cases, and I think Reichs' books do a good job of showing that without being too syrupy about it. But these bones were an academic question more than a criminal question, so the usual sense of urgency was missing. Not her best, but still good.
