Book Review: Not one of her better ones!
Summary: 3 Stars
I liked Phil Pilgrim and Laurel, he's a kid from the wrong side of the tracks so to speak, grew up virtually alone in the world, worked his way through highschool and college (the last of his family died when he was 13 or so but he is a kid people liked one with a sensible head, integrity and a good work ethic, pretty amazing since he basically raised himself. Laurel was a rich kid, an only child but now poor and alone in the world except for a few annoying bossy relatives. They meet again when she comes to town for a job interview and has car trouble and a harrowing experience with a stampede of cows, Phil is put out but saves her. They hit it off and fall for each other, they get saved after an old lady witnesses to them, then Phil leaves for parts unknown (he is a serviceman), she overhears some espionage in a shady boardinghouse... the book is bland and slow. The secondary characters are just as bland. The Red Signal also by Grace is better for suspense and characters than this one though it doesn't rank in her best books either. But you know depending on what kind of books you usually read you could do a lot worse than this one too!
