Book Review: Parnormal or Parnormal Romance

I will not be summarizing the book, but rather give you my ratings of the book as whole and the individual stories within.
BOOK AS A WHOLE
Like
- All the paranormal stories were different. 1-werewolf, 1-vampire 1-voodoo, 1-succubus,and 1-angel story.
Dislike
- There was no defining category. Being part of the Kimani line (AA Romance)I suspected they would be romances. But only one story I would truly categorize as a Paranormal Romance. That would be LA Banks "Payback Is A Bitch." The others were simply Paranormals, some with Romantic elements, some without. I wish there would have been a continuity of subject across the board.
Payback is a Bitch by LA Banks - Rating the story as a whole this is by far my favorite in the anthology. Like I said before it is the only Paranormal Romance. And it is the first time I have seen a character described as "Blue Black" now THAT'S dark-skinned. The story had it all, tension, romance, suspense, love, werewolves, and at the end of the story I thought "DAMN Payback IS a Bitch". I will say that I haven't been able to jump on the LA Banks Vampire Huntress bandwagon because of the obsessive use of vernacular in her books. This had very little of it and she explained it which gave me that "ah ha" moment. I will DEFINITELY be picking up her werewolf stories after reading this book. I give Payback Is A Bitch 5 stars for book as a whole, 4 for mythological world building, and 5 stars for the "DAAAAMN" factor(must read the end).
The Heat of the Night - This story is straight paranormal, written in first person perspective. As a preference I do not like first person in a book. It reads too much like a confession story. However, this was more like a confession story( a very eerie one). But for this story it works, I can't imagine this story being told in anything BUT first person. No other perspective mattered as much as the heroines (I use that term loosely). I would classify this book as a paranormal erotica (no romance). This book had mystery, intrigue, and hot sex. It was very well written capturing your attention from the first moment. I give the story 4 stars as a whole, 3 for mythological world building, and 7 (on a scale from 1-5) for the "DAAAAAAAAMN" factor (must read the end)
Unfortunately after these two the stories go down the hill from there so I'll briefly sum up the rest.
Vamped - My least favorite. It doesn't capture you at all. In fact I started reading in it and was so not invested in it. I skipped it and read the rest, saving the worst for last. Story as a whole - 2.5, mythological world building - 3, there is no "Damn" factor.
Balancing The Scales - At best is was okay. Didn't love it, didn't hate it. I was able to put it down (which isn't a good thing). Story as a whole - 3, mythological world building - 4, "Daaamn" factor - 2
Avenging Angel - I'm conflicted about this one. I actually liked the story. It had a fair amount of action and a pretty good story line. I think had it not been in the same book as the first two (and thereby no AWESOME comparisons), I may have like it more. Story as a whole - 3.75 (something is preventing me from giving it a full 4), mythological world building - 5 (the world building was EXCELLENT), "Daaaamn" factor - 2.
