Creatures Fantastic: Dragons comes through with a few gems such as this one, as it surveys the origins and history of this mythic, fire-breathing beast. But Dragons isn't quite up to the standards of DK's other titles--fast-paced editing and dramatic reenactments can't make up for horsey computer animation and a disjointed script. While exploring the dragon's origins in the East and its connection to feng shui, yin is confused with yang; when a Western dragon faces off against a spindly St. George, the duel is about as convincing as a game of Atari. Footage of nuclear testing, the Gulf War, and even space exploration is tacked on to the end, supporting the non sequitur that humanity must learn to "master the dragon" by resisting our violent impulses. While Dragons may be enough to please hard-core dracophiles, fans of DK's otherwise great documentaries would do well to pass on this half-hour. --Paul Hughes
