Book Reviews of Creating Life-Like Animals in Polymer ClayBook Review: True Craftsmanship Summary: 5 Stars
Katherine Dewey is an amazing artist that is extremely talented; her book makes me want to start straight away, although I have been too busy recently.
Katherine's figures may look simple to follow, but this shows years of practise and her love of clay. A must have book, to encourage those who already can, to get back into sculpting and to those who can't, it gives lots of advice, diagrams and pictures. For example to show how to sculpt a dog she uses 10 pages for the Basset Hound and 10 more pages for the Red Fox. She gives money saving tips on making tools that work and how to make a cheap armature that saves on using too much clay and also keeps the work a lot lighter in weight.
Thankyou Katherine Dewey you have made a new fan. I will always keep an eye out for any new book you present :)
Book Review: Review of Creating Life-Like Animals in Polymer Clay Summary: 5 Stars
This book, by Katherine Dewey, is a terrific resource book for those wishing to make animals from polymer clay - either to enhance their other sculptures or as a stand alone product. Numerous pictures and examples, with detailed instruction guide you step by step through the process. Animals included are deer, in two poses, frog, wolf, seal, bear and more. She also includes examples of bases, such as a leave for a sleeping mouse.
The book is well organized and transitions beautifully from one point to another. Graphics are included along with tips and tricks on making armatures and painting the final product. This book has it all and I highly recommend it as a necessary part of your crafting library.
Book Review: A "Must Have" for Polymer Clay Enthusiasts Summary: 5 Stars
Katherine Dewey has worked magic with this book. The instructions are clear and thorough enough that a even a beginning sculptor would be able to create wonderful likenesses of the animals portrayed. For those more familiar with the aspects of polymer clay and sculpting, this book contains valuable information and techniques that may be applied to an artist's own work; thereby improving its strength and quality. Katherine's use of armatures and proportion is well explained and portrayed, making this book an excellent learning resource for beginning sculptors, as well as a superb reference tool for advanced sculptors.
Book Review: Great true to like looks animals Summary: 5 Stars
When I opened this book I could not believe how true to life the animals are that Katherine Dewey has made for this book. It made me hope she comes out with another book on other animals she has created. My favorite in the book is the fawn and in another area of the book she shows a different way to create a laying down fawn instead of a standing up one by making the legs differently for the body base.
I suggest this book for those who love animal statues that look like they are ready to walk off your table or shelf.
Book Review: The Book To Have At Your Side! Summary: 5 Stars
This is exactly the type of book I was looking for to guide me through polymer clay in animal works. Not only are the steps detailed down to the finished painting process but at the back of the book are tips on how to reposition the animal. Just a great, great reference book for the beginner or serious hobbyist to perfect their techniques. I was so banking on it being what I needed I had it shipped post haste! and was not disappointed. I can only thank the author by doing her book justice with my works!
