As a huge rock fan ever, I really wanted to know a lot more about David Lee Roth's fantastic personality (or persona - or both?! or 'Roth'?! ha ha) and private life/rock star trajectory, since I've always found him an extremely talented rock vocalist/frontman and the sexiest man ever (either for good or for bad...)! I attended 4 Van Halen gigs in São Paulo and Porto Alegre (Brazil) in their Jan/83 Diver Down South American Tour, when I already was a huge fan, and my interest in VH and particularly in DLR has only increased more and more. Those were the most fantastic shows I've ever seen! So this book sounds just as if you were talking to Dave in person, traveling together to some of the most exotic places and facts of his life ever, and getting to know everything directly from him: his impressions, his private little - or big - events, the whole rock scene weirdness and grandeur from inside, the ups and downs, in his own words. It's just like being invited backstage - ooops! - the amazing gig that is his life! What else could a fan want? Oh, there are some further issues a fan would surely want - everybody wants some! But, anyway, there's nothing like getting to know Dave's 'world according to Dave'! His narrative is always catchy, his impressions always sharply inserted; he expertly signals very odd contradictions in his surroundings with classy approach, and reveals highly superior IQ, abundant life experience and unusual sensibility, depicting facts and flavours with his great ol' sense of humour and sarcasm, his unique personality gluing all those things together in a creative matelasse of our era, issued from a priviledged viewpoint. If there's something sure bout DLR is that you never get bored when he's around! Long life, pal, you're - and has ever been - simply The Best! Long life VH too, by the way!

'I was there with these two girls once; they were strippers. They said 'Dave, we'd like you to go upstairs, the two of us, with you'. So I said, 'okay'. It was angus, and it was hot and sweaty and humid, and we commenced to deliver the groceries at 138 beats per minute or more. One of the girls had $1500 in singles and fives and tens, her end-of-the-week tips and pay and everything in her g-string. Nobody noticed, you know, when the g-string came undone - well, I noticed - nobody noticed the money, like, floating around. I woke up at some point around dawn, the two of them were asleep, and all three of us were covered with money, every square inch of skin had a dollar bill pasted to it - there was nothing but. The whole bed was covered with bills. Our bodies were covered with bills. There were bills in my underwear. Take a little picture of that'. So begins perhaps the ultimate rock autobiography. Throughout the late-seventies and eighties, Van Halen were the archetypal American rock group. Whats more they were also the highest paid band in the history of show business, taking a cool $1 million for a night's work at a festival in 1983 and making the Guinness Book of Records.Music Books
