Book Reviews of Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God

Book Review: Lukewarm Christians beware!
Summary: 5 Stars

If you don't like having your toes stepped on, you might want to wear steel toed boots while reading this book. In Crazy Love, Francis Chan calls the 21st Century church out of its lazy slumber and exhorts her to make a difference for the kingdom.

He begins by reminding us how small we are compared to the vastness of the Universe. He asks us to stop and think about the God who created the Universe, who loves us so much that He sent His Son to die for us in order to restore our relationship with Him. Yet what is the response to this Crazy Love by so many in today's Church?

Jesus calls it being lukewarm and warns that if we don't change, He will vomit us out of His mouth.

After grabbing us with that graphic and arresting image, Chan makes several practical, yet radical, suggestions about how we can be effective ministers for Christ in our culture and communities, turning Christ's Crazy Love for us into a Crazy Love for Him.

If you've been feeling like something is missing in your relationship with God, or need to be awakened out of a slumber, let this book shake you up. As Chris Tomlin says in the Foreword, "Crazy Love may just be the most challenging book outside of God's Word that you will read this year."

Book Review: Best Christian Book I've Read in years
Summary: 5 Stars

Francis Chan hits the nail on the head with this powerful book about God's love and his grace towards us, but equally causes one to examine their life to see if our love for Him is measured only by a head knowledge of him, or of our merely wanting to by fire insurance to hopefully escape hell, or of just adding God as another part of our lives. Are we as committed to God as He is to us. Are we walking in obedience to His Word? Are we showing God's love by really touching and ministering to the lives of those who desperately need to know Him. Are we meeting the needs of those much less fortunate than we are? Are we "doers of the Word, or just hearers only?

This book will change your heart towards God. In it you will see the glory of His love for us, but at the same time will create in you a desire to be all that you can be in Him. Some have said that it is a book that prescribes works as a means of salvation. It is not that in the least. Grace is found throughout "Crazy Love". But it shows us James' outlook on what a believer truly is, "18 But someone will say, "You have faith and I have works." Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works."
James 2:18 (ESV)

Book Review: Overwhelmed by this book, and this Wonderful God!
Summary: 5 Stars

I want to thank Frances for a wonderful book that left me "overwhelmed." I know he would only want the attention from this book to go to the Allmighty God that he serves.
This book will really challenge your faith and your true love for God. He really shows us that we "christians" should take Jesus' words so serious that transformation from this "lukewarm" lifestyle to this obsessive walk of Love with Christ must take place here on earth.
I told my wife that I was "shaken" and rattled a bit after reading a couple of the chapters.
This book will force you to examine your heart, your faith, and your walk with Jesus. Are you ready to give up "everything" you have to follow Christ? Is your love for Him the type of Love that is so strong that you would actually sacrifice your own "Isaac?" What road are you on? The wide one or the narrow one?
Frances gives so much insight to true Kingdom realities and most importantly explains that if you are left feeling like you don't measure up, you can change by simply asking God through His Holly Spirit for that genuine relationship with God and to see God for who He truely is. I think this is what Frances did, and it shows. If you are ready to "step up" READ this book!

Book Review: A must read for Christians
Summary: 5 Stars

Francis Chan wrote a book that will stand the test of time as being a outstanding book that speaks the truth concerning the issue of lukewarm Christianity.

Here are quotes from the book that displays how great this book is:

"Our greatest fear should not be of failure but of succeeding at things in life that don't really matter."

"We need to stop giving people excuses not to believe in God. You've probably heard the expression 'I believe in God, just not organized religion'. I don't think people would say that if the church truly lived like we are called to live."

"I believe He wants us to love others so much that we go to extremes to help them."

"God's definition of what matters is pretty straightforward. He measures our lives by how we love."

Those are some of my favorite quotes from this incredible book.

Whether you have been a Christian since you were a child or if you are new in your walk with Christ, This book is a great book to encourage you to love God with everything you have.

God's love is supposed to be shared with those around us and this book nails that point home.

I highly recommend this book.

Book Review: Crazy Bold, That's What it Is
Summary: 5 Stars

After hearing such mixed reviews about this book, I wasn't sure if I'd like it. But as I got reading, I thought, this is just the wakeup our culture needs. We're so complacent that we forget just how extravagant God's love is. Chan challenges Christians to flee from mediocrity and lukewarm confessions to real, living faith.

Some don't like it. But I think it's because Chan makes them squirm. How many people can truly take criticism without getting defensive? Chan disputes every possible argument that might arise about his theology. Those who still claim he's "works oriented" have obviously missed large chunks of the book where he explains exactly how this is not the intent of this book.

I'm not saying Chan's words are the inspired Word of God, but he's backed up all of his words with The Word. This isn't a book for selective reading. You must read the whole book in order to see how Chan has carefully thought about the arguments that might arise when he challenges Christians to get off their duffs and prove that their faith is something other than lip confession.

I don't give out many 5 star ratings, but this one earned it. I'm planning to read it a second time.
