Book Reviews of Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless GodBook Review: A much needed book Summary: 5 Stars
This book was a wake up call! I said I was a Christian but there was no fruit in my life. This book challenged me as a Christian. It challenged me to go back to God's word and read it. Read it like my life depended on it - which it does actually.
It challenged me to 1) fall back in love with God, 2) be more intentional about reading his word and, 3) be more intentional with the gospel.
I mean there were some truths in there that were like slaps to my face, but I needed to hear them. I so needed to hear them!
I'm glad I read this book. If you want a book that will challenge you, read it! It is well written and will not bore you.
If you want to be radical for the sake of Christ, if you want "your light to shine before all men that they may see your good works and praise your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16), if you want to live a life that is a pleasing aroma to God, READ THIS BOOK! You won't be the same.
It will challenge you to go deeper with God so that you will be able to say like the Apostles Peter and John when they were before the rulers, elders, teachers of the law, the high priest and his family, "Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God's eyes that we obey you rather than God. For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard." (Acts 4:19, NIV)
The world needs us Christians to step up and be like Christ. He loved the Father and he loved people. Let's step up Christians! Read this book!!!
Book Review: Tough but worth it! Summary: 5 Stars
Just finished this book with 9 other women at church. THIS WAS TOUGH! That being said, I LOVED IT! If you are ready to get your behind kicked into high gear, to be shaken to your core about how you are living "your life" then I would suggest this book. I'm not content with the status quo, and want to live the life given to me for the one who gave it to me. As every human being, I struggle with this just as the next person, so for me it was yes, "convicting" as is anything that Glorifies God because I fall so short of his Awesomeness! There were moments when I was angry, thought Francis Chan was a "better than attitude" jerk (sorry Francis!)...but then, I spent those moments in deep prayer wondering why I was so hacked off at what was just read, and I realized almost every time- that it was MY issue and where I was falling short. I was humbled, blessed, inspired and ultimately changed by this easy to read, great study guide. One thing to remember is that we are ALL at different places in our walk with Christ, and while Francis Chan is a Christian Super hero- don't compare yourself to him. Open your heart and find where God wants YOUR path to be lead and where you can grow and mature in your faith. Have fun with this. Take it as your opportunity to connect and find out what God wants for you. It's worth it! He always meets us where we are and there really is no where to go but up in his presence! Enjoy and allow yourself to be challenged!
Book Review: Know what love is! Summary: 5 Stars
Just finished the Book Crazy Love by Francis Chan. I can't believe the power that God imparts in this book. People think they know what love is and how to love, and some just might. This book will not only describe it to you in detail, but will also show you and encourage you in what it really means to love.
The primary focus of the book is of course Love, and giving God your best. Isn't that what we do when we truly love someone. You jump through hoops for them, are happy just being near that person, and desire a closer relationship with that person.
When I first got the book I thought what a great idea a book that talks about what it means to truly love God. When I started reading it I thought I might not be ready for this kind of life changing love. To many times in my own life I have given God leftovers like a begrudging tithe, a quick impersonal prayer, maybe even sing a praise song. Was it my best? Was it even much of an effort at all? Sometimes. When I finished "Crazy Love" I felt it sharpen my focus and lead to a better understanding and perspective. Because that's what really happens to us we loose perspective. The perspective that God brings through Chan is sharp, decisive and powerful. I can't count how many times I had to stop reading to praise God and consider what was just said. I praise God for the revelation and know this book will bless you beyond measure. Enjoy!
Book Review: All people calling themselves Christians should read this Summary: 5 Stars
I love this book. There are two main Scripture verses that are used, although the book is filled with other Scripture quotes. The first is from Matthew 22:37-40 (love God and your neighbor), and Revelation 3:14-22 (message to the church at Laodicea). In combining these two concepts, Chan attempts to motivate the average pew-sitter to action, not out of obligation or duty but because of love.
As an author that has written about these two concepts, I will say that Francis Chan has done a marvelous job. He has the heart of a pastor, wanting to bring about change in God's people, and he is very effective at it. There are segments available on the internet which introduce each chapter, and I found them inspiring although not essential.
The tremendous response that this book has seen is a testimony as to its need in the modern church in the USA. The testimonies of others near the end of the book is also helpful in allowing us to see the potential within ourselves.
As of May 2010, Francis Chan has now moved on to plant another church, this time in a large metropolitan area. I wish him well and believe he will be successful because he walks with the faith that he talks.

Book Review: This book has the potential to be a landmark in American Christianity Summary: 5 Stars
I saw Francis Chan speak at the National Worship Leader's conference last year in Austin, TX and was blown away by his passion and guts. He obviously believed what he was telling us, that God never called us to be comfortable and successful, he called us to follow him faithfully. Period! I also downloaded his message from the Passion '07 conference. Also unreal, and life changing.
When I saw this book available, I bought it immediately. I have read it, watched the chapter videos, relistened to both messages I already had of his, and it is changing me radically.
I thought I was already a pretty sold-out Christ follower, but this book really does make you reflect. Am I really obsessed with God? Do I truly think about what God thinks is important? Am I caught up in the American dream?
Beware of reading this book if you don't want to be challenged in your faith. If you are not a Christian and want to hear some real and enlightening thoughts on the state of the American Christian church as opposed to the instructions given by Jesus, this book is a good one for you as well. This is NOT a feel good book. There are plenty of those around. (cough..Joel Osteen...cough)
I put this right along recent classics like "A Generous Orthodoxy" by Brian McLaren, "The Spirit of the Disciplines" by Dallas Willard.
