Book Reviews of CookWise: The Hows & Whys of Successful Cooking, The Secrets of Cooking RevealedBook Review: James Beard Award Well Deserved! Summary: 5 Stars
Of all of my cookbooks, I use this one and Cook It Right, Achieve Perfection with Every Dish You Cook by Anne Willan, the most. First, the ingredients are available in most supermarkets. Second, the level of difficulty of the recipes are beginning to moderate, plus the instructions are well explained. And most importantly, the recipes always turn out like they should. The Lemon on Lemon on Lemon Meringue Pie (page 243) is simply delicious! (For the novice cook, the James Beard Cookbook Award is the culinary equivalent of winning of an Oscar.)
Book Review: Teaching your husband to cook? Summary: 5 Stars
This book is a fantastic read for people who are just learning to cook in their adult life. Like Cook's Illustrated publications, Shirley Corriher gives you in this book a lifetime of experimentation and a depth of understanding of food chemistry. All the stuff you might have learned if you hadn't ditched Home Economics for Trig, like me.
I'm lucky to have had a Mom with a huge collection of WWI and WWII cookbooks and who was willing to let me experiment. But if you didn't have that, this book should be in your kitchen.
Book Review: 5 Stars
This is the best cookbook I have ever bought, it is worth every penny! I have underlined and highlighted so much of this book. This book gave me confidence to try new things. I have learned so much from her, i wish she would write more books because I would be the first one in line to buy them. She teaches you in simple English the hows and whys of cooking. If I could only have one cookbook I would choose this one. It teaches you how to cook rather than just how to follow a recipe. AMAZING BOOK! God bless you Shirley!
Book Review: Feel overwhelmed in the kitchen? Buy this book!! Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this book at my aunt's house and was impressed after just thumbing through it. I bought it when I got home and have been so glad that I did. I love the 'what this recipe teaches you' but I play a game and read that *after* I have made the recipe and guess what folks, I usually have *learned* exactly what that particular recipe set out to teach me. It feels like you have a personal tutor guiding you through each recipe and my fiance is really happy that I bought it (and his stomach is too!)
Book Review: I'm buying this as a gift since I love the copy I bought. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this book when it first came out and am now buying it for a loved one. Ms. Corriher explains cooking topics, such as bread or eggs or cookies, in an interesting and informative way. She can get quite technical but is never boring and always helpful. She reveals not only a wide and deep knowledge of the science behind cooking and baking. Her enthusiasm is contagious and her willingness to help her cooking friends and others who call her come through in this book. I loved it!
