Book Reviews of Comic Insights: The Art of Stand-Up Comedy

Book Review: Priceless
Summary: 5 Stars

Simply put, the information Mr. Ajaye provides in this book is priceless to aspiring comedian (like myself). It provides a solid foundation, to build upon. He gives you the real life of a stand up comedian, from many different viewpoints. You get straight up, in your face information, that answers many of the questions you may have, and then some. I'm just glad that I chose this book, before taking that step to the stage, because now I have a roadmap, and an idea of what to expect along the way. I appreciate that Mr. Ajaye was real with this, and lets you know that, yes.. you will most likely bomb the first time out. That small bit right there, removed a bit the anguish, I had, from not knowing what to expect. EXCELLENT BOOK!!!!! Thank you Mr. Ajaye.

Book Review: FRANKLYN AJAYE IS THE TRUE MASTER OF COMEDY!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been a working comedian since 1988. I am currently co-hosting the number one radio morning show in Washington D.C.. My life is better than good. BUT, after reading Franklyn's book, I was RE-Inspired! The Art of Stand-Up Comedy speaks to the inner soul of anyone with the love of comedy in their heart. It forces you to reexamine your own dedication and work ethic. Franklyn Ajaye as a comedian is my personal inspiration and it is his brilliance that oversees the power of this great book. It is his genius that is respected by the greats who are interviewed, thus yielding the most from them. He doesn't know it, but Franklyn Ajaye is my Mr. Miyagi of comedy. And he will be yours too if you read this (and listen to his "I'm A Comedian Seriously" album!).

Book Review: Fantastic Book
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm just beginning in stand-up and this book saved at least a year in my development. The insight Ajaye gives is amazing and very clear and precise. The book comes together just like a stand-up act does and is brilliant. Do not be confused, this is not a humor book, this is a book filled with advice and insights into the art of stand-up. The question and answer section with different comedieans is brilliant. All the comedieans interviewed are national headliners or more and they each give their own personal take on stand-up. The more approaches the better. This book was 15 years in the making, and it definitely shows. Ajaye has brought forth excellent advice. A must read for aspiring comics.

Book Review: The book to read for a standup comedian.
Summary: 5 Stars

I live by sayings and the big saying I live by is "listen to winners because they know how to win, losers think they know how to win, but they don't because they are losers." This book has great insight on winners of standup comedy. It is great to find out what the winners did to succeed to achieve such a hard goal as being a successful comedian. Learn from the masters of "Jerry Seinfeld", "Chris Rock", or "Ellen Degeneres" and of course Franklyn Ajaye himself! I would put this in the Top 3 must-reads for any standup comic. Learn from the masters. When I am successful at this, this book will be one of the reasons why I am successful. Thanks!

Book Review: Fast Read - Good Advice
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is easy to read, but very intellectual in its approach to learning comedy. The author takes all your trivial questions seriously (asking if the comics write before they go onstage, if they DO he reveals if is in outline form or word-for-word.) It is interesting to read of the wide variety of writing styles--Jay Leno never wrote anything down, Ellen Degeneres writes down every word. Richard Lewis goes on stage with his "Torah" he calls it - his constantly-evolving sheet of material. The other inspiring thing is he finds out how comics did when they first started. Gary Shandling bombed for the first five years. Wow.
