Book Reviews of Come As You Are: The Story of NirvanaBook Review: Thicker info than "Heavier Than Heaven" Summary: 5 Stars
I finished reading this book just a couple of weeks ago, & I convinced myself that this would be the best book I would read on Nirvana (and/or K. Cobain). It was written before K's suicide in 1994, & he actually sat down with the band. It has quotes from several people affiliated with K, not just Courtney. It obviously didn't dwell on his suicide, but the final chapter was well written.Being a fan of Courtney (and Hole), I am aware that she lies. & I recommend this book over HTH because the facts are given to you right then & there, & they don't drag out. The author obviously has a good sense of humour, like K did, & the book made me laugh. I wanted to read a book on K that would give me details/facts about his life, but I also would rather be entertained with a smile, than trying to hold back tears. In HTH, Cross makes K out to be only some kid from a rural town who was just miserable & a terrible influence. K was creative & intelligent... & CAYA depicts that. If you read only one book on K, or even Nirvana in general... which Azzerad does a fine job of doing... this is it.
Book Review: Most Honest Biography On Kurt Donald Cobain!! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is my favorite books on Kurt and Nirvana. There are a lot of quotes which i really enjoyed and the pictures. The book starts off from when kurt was born and he was a very hyperactive young boy. So, his mom would give him ritalin which would calm him down. I feel that the ritalin started kurt off on the wrong foot. With "Natural Selection" when your young and givin drugs you'll eventually grow up to be doing much harder drugs. And i found that very depressing. This book also explains in great detail on how Kurt meet Krist and the many drummers that they went thru before they met Dave. Then the sucess which was the beginning of the end. Kurt wasn't up to being a "spokesperson of a generation" it was too much for him. The Author Azzerad actually talked to Kurt and asked him a lot of great questions.. I feel that this is the only book that you'll ever need cause it explains everything.. and Nirvana is the greatest band of all times...they'll never get forgotten because they were the best!! R.I.P. Kurt Donald Cobain (1967-1994)
Book Review: A truely fascinating look at one most influential bands..... Summary: 5 Stars
I have now read this book four times. Each time I get a new feeling about the history of the band. After reading the book I noticed alot of comparisons between the members of the band and myself. Besides the fact that Kurt Cobain is dead yada yada, the book gives a great feeling of what it is like to be in a band. I'm in a band and I can appreciate what Nirvana went through to just get a song on the radio, because I too have experienced the "road life" etc. As we do our tours from little city to little city I keep the book right by my bunk, so I can pick it up when times are hard, and get inspired to continue going on. As far as the book is concerned I feel that it is very honest about band conflicts, the problems with sucess, and dealing with people who only use you as a cash grab. Whether you're in a band, want to be in a band (but have no hope in hell of learning to play an instrument), or just like the group pick this one up because it is truely phenominal!!!!!!!
Book Review: Come As You Are: Awesome Book Summary: 5 Stars
I went out and bought this book hoping to find out some information on NIRVANA/Kurt Cobain, needless to say that's just what I found when I read Come As You Are:The Story Of Nirvana. This book is one of the most interesting books on NIRVANA I've ever read, I recomend this book to ALL NIRVANA FANS or to anyone interested in Kurt. This book starts off by telling you about Kurt's life as a child and then how he formed the band, and about being on tour and everything in between. This book tells a lot of stories about NIRVANA and Kurt, and there is a huge amount of actual conversation between Kurt, Krist, and Dave. This book really made me feel like I was actually there, the book is so well-written that you can get a really clear image of what is going on. Not to mention there are a ton of pictures in this book, I would say this is one of the best NIRVANA books I've ever read. A must have for anyone who likes NIRVANA or Kurt.
Book Review: Best Nirvana book ever Summary: 5 Stars
Yes THIS book is the BEST!!! It didn't suger coat and I think the fact that it was written before Kurts death helped in its sincerty and the way the author wrote it. He really did he's research and put things exactly like Kurt said them and didn't distort them at all. IF I had the chance to meet this man(Azerrad) I would just to sit and talk about Kurt for hours, cause he would definatly know what he was talking about!! This book has alot of info on Kurts and Chris's childhood, alot of info on all the other bands and stuff they were into in there youth, great storys on Kurts days outside under the bridge or his horrible way of living in the apartments, how they got intouch with Dave, there touring, there songs, and ALOT on what Kurt was like. There was no holding back or speculation in this book. It is defenitly a MUST HAVE!!!!!! There are some of the most awsome pics in there to!!!!!!
