Book Review: Color theory made simple AND entertaining

I am so happy I paid near-full price for this book! I bought it after a friend and I had a friendly disagreement on the color of a fabric she was trying to match with something from my stash. Turns out, I was right, but much humbled when I could not answer her questions about color tone, hue, etc. Now she wants to borrow this book from me!
This is a book to READ, not just thumb through, although I must admit the first chapter I will read is * NOT * the first chapter, but Chapter 2: "Keeping A Color Journal". If you love to journal or perhaps just like the idea of journaling, or, like me, you own more than one blank journal, this chapter will speak to you. This concept is just one example of how author Maria Peagler assists the reader in discovering their own color confidence. Right off the bat, this book becomes about YOU.
Part 1 of this book is about the technicalities of color theory and is in a workbook format. As Ms. Peagler explains hue, value, and intensity, she draws YOU in as an active participant by showing you how to use your very own stash to make a color wheel for each of these 3 key concepts. So, when you complete this first part of the book, you will have started your own color journal AND made a unique color wheel to illustrate the key color concepts of hue, value, and intensity.
Part 2 is application-oriented, and contains 9 projects that get you to play with your new-found color confidence. Ms. Peagler calls these "color harmony projects", and each one utilitzes a rather daunting vocabulary (examples: "triadic", "split-complement", and "round-robin") that the quilter/reader will become uniquely familiar with.
Peagler is understandably proud of her newest book and with good reason! This book combines textbook knowledge with workbook skill-builders and uses YOUR color preferences and YOUR own fabric stash. This is not a one-size-fits-all book; although there may in fact be only one universal color wheel, in practice there will be as many personal color wheels as there are quilters!
I am going to have to tell my friend that it's going to be a rather long time until I can let her borrow this prized resource!
