Book Reviews of Code: Veronica (Resident Evil #6)Book Review: Super Reader Summary: 3 Stars
Apparently these are based on the game, which I have never played. A young woman is held captive by a pair of twins who are related to the whole Umbrella thing. They have a very twisted relationship.
She manages to get out, and meets a boy around the area, and they try and escape, dodging monsters.
Elsewhere, the girl's brother, a S.T.A.R.S. member, decides to come looking for her.
The female twin is the carrier of the T-Veronica virus, meaning she can become a superhuman shapeshifter. This is bad news for some.
Book Review: Not very scary. Summary: 3 Stars
It seems that every other book in the Resident Evil book series is not very good. And this is one of them. I could understand the other ones not being to great because they are not based on the games, but this one is. I was a little shocked that I wasnt shaking in my bed. Read it just to keep you posted as to what is going on in the series, but not to be scared.
Book Review: Good story adapt Summary: 3 Stars
It tells the story well, and adds a human emotion to it that the game did not go into. Though, it seemed to rush at the end
Book Review: It doesnt do the game justice. Summary: 2 Stars
I loved the Resident Evil games. I bought a DreamCast just to play Code Veronica. And when I found out that a series of books was going to be deticated to these games, I jumped on it, buying them as soon as they hit shelves. All of them are instant classics, yet, Code Veronica doesnt seem to do a good job portraying the game as the first and third books have done. Important scenes are rushed trough, heck, Chris's arival on the island to look for Claire only last's about 8 pages, then he's on antartica. That part was the hardest, and exciting point in the game. Having to revisit the shattered complex, fending off againt hunters and zombies. And this book is ssoo short. I read it in two nights, and felt disapointed.
Book Review: The Worst Thing I've Ever Read Summary: 1 Stars
Although not a die-hard Resident Evil fan, I have always enjoyed the merchandise created for the series. The games are good, the movies are.....alright I guess, and the books were entertaining, fast paced, and incredibly easy to read. So naturally when I reached the final book of the series, I was (at the risk of sounding quite silly) giddy with anticipation. That giddyness was WITHOUT A DOUBT misplaced. The book is by far the worst thing I have ever read. The plot itself is inconsistant, stupid, and blatantly amateurish. The characters in the story, which for the most part mainly include Claire Redfield and a buddy she meets a little ways in (his name is not worth mentioning) as well as her brother, a pschopathic transvestite, and a cyborg version of the loveable backstabbing Albert Whesker.
The Characters themselves are in no way "constructs" as no progression is ever made. There are some minor "flashback" moments, but these are far and few between, and are usually completely irrelevant. The dialogue accompanied with said characters is LAUGHABLE and very cheesy, chalk full of one liners, stupid comments, and a very misplaced "I love you" towards the end.
The pace in the book is quite frankly very odd, and inconsistant. The locations are unrealistic for the series (which is already heavily based on the "fantastic" and "unbelievable"), and the characters travel across the country via jets and military transports (which they already know how to operate thank goodness).
The conclusion of the book is anti-climactic and very loose ended, with a typical "lets go home now, unphased by what has just happened" scenario.
Said conclusion leads the reader (or at least I) thinking "alright that was stupid, but I'm sure the next will be better". WRONG! The next book doesn't finish the series. The next book acts as a prelude to the events of number one. A sick joke is it not?
After reading the book I had to recheck the author's name on the spline many times, as I could not believe the same one wrote this book. It was that bad. I would SERIOUSLY recommend that NO ONE read this book. Others have, so you don't have to. Do yourself a favour, and pick up something tasteful.
