3. This book is a western book about a boy who is in trouble with his step-mother and her cousin
The book, Cloudy in the West, is about a boy named Joey Shipman. His mother dies giving birth to him. His father dies after remarrying a woman named, Dulice, by a wagon accident. He now has to live with her and her cousin, Blair Meacham. A man living on the farm named Reuben is suspecting that Dulice is trying to get the farm and sell it for money. He warns the boy about it, and tells him that if he runs off his dads cousin named Beau is not too far from where they are. Reuben was found dead in his bed the next day later.
Joey starts stealing corn, salt pork, biscuits and other type of food preparing to run away. Dulice and Blair Meacham soon later get married. They go off on a honeymoon, and Joey decides that it's the best time to run away.
He runs west to his uncle's house, but finds him in a jail. The guard says that if beau decides to stay with the boy, that he would release him. Joey and Beau head to California. They decide to get a job on the outside of town to earn extra money for their trip.
Trouble begins when Blair Meacham, finds him on the farm. He is taking him back to the farm. While crossing the river Blair tries to drown Joey Shipman. Beau comes and saves him. A big brawl happens and Beau hits Blair in the head with a log killing him.
They immediately collect their money and take off out west. On their way out there they get mixed up with outlaws. Outlaws stole their horses and took off. On the way to this town they see the horse and snatch it back up again. The outlaws caught them and took Joey and Beau to an outlaw camp.
At the outlaw camp, Beau and Joey run into a female. While they try to escape the female runs off with them. When they escape one of the outlaws runs into them. Heading west with the outlaws they stop at a town. The outlaw with them tries to rob a bank and was caught and killed.

I really like this book and would recommend this book. to anyone who likes to read historic fiction books. Some parts of the books were very exciting but some parts were kind of boring but it was a good book after all.
