Book Review: Continuing the story

Star Wars Clone Wars Adventures, Volume 4, consists of 4 stories: "Another Fine Mess", "The Brink", "Orders", and "Descent". All the art is by the Fillbach Brothers except for "Orders", drawn by Rick Lacy. The angular style of Star Wars Clone Wars Adventures, similar to that of Cartoon Network shows such as Samurai Jack, Justice League, and Teen Titans, is part of the appeal of these digest-size volumes. "Orders ", written by Ryan Kaufman, is the best story of this volume. It is about a squad of Stormtroopers being human, then reminding us they are clones by `just following orders'. I recommend collecting the whole series of Star Wars Clone Wars Adventures, published by Dark Horse Comics.

Four more tales of hyperkinetic Clone Wars action! As the Clone Wars burn across the galaxy and the true intentions of the Sith are revealed, the true heroes of the conflict emerge. Chewbacca leads the Wookiees against the Republic invaders on the jungle world of Kashyyyk; R2-D2 and C-3PO uncover a plot to assassinate Padme; an orphaned refugee witnesses the rough life of a Clone Trooper firsthand, and Anakin Skywalker fights alongside a young Jedi who will play a part in his descent into the dark side. More stories of harrowing danger and astonishing heroism - all done in the stripped-down, high energy style of the acclaimed Cartoon Network series.Star Wars Clone Wars Adventures, the digest-sized comic styled after the Clone Wars animated series, seems to get better as it goes along. The stories are still quick reading, but volume 4 is more entertaining overall. There's a C-3PO and R2D2 diversion that turns into something more, a solo Anakin adventure, and a clone troopers mission that for the first time delves into the timeline of Revenge of the Sith by the activation of Order 66. That's followed by a battle on Kashykkk between the Wookiees and the outmatched troopers. The Fillbach Brothers again contribute art (and also wrote the first story), aided by writers Justin Lambros, Ryan Kaufman, and Hayden Blackman and artist Rick Lacy. --David Horiuchi
