Book Reviews of Clear Your Clutter With Feng Shui

Book Review: This book altered my life - completely.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been on a clutter-free mission since I read this book and I can't seem to get to the end of this journey fast enough. I thought my home was 90% clutter-free until Karen Kingston introduced an idea that if I haven't used an object, if I haven't repaired it, or if it hasn't given me great joy to see it (nor will it) then it's clutter and it binds my energy that would otherwise be flowing freely. I am able now to look at something and instantly know whether my energy is well served by it or not.

At least 200 books have been donated and there are potentially more on the chopping block. I have cleared my walls of custom-framed pictures that once warmed my heart but have long since lost their impact, every knick-knack that has no use for me is on its way to new owners and I feel explosively revitalized.

There was a moment before the first room became clutter-free and all the stuff was out for inspection that I was overwhelmed with the mess. Somehow the cover of the book (June 1999 edition) motivated me to have a leap of faith and continue with the process.

There are times when I'm torn between keeping an item or not but one 're-read' of an appropriate passage in Clear Your Clutter With Feng Shui that clarity comes back in a flash.

It has been one serious week of tazmanian-style clutter-clearing and I give myself one more week before I can begin to invest my new-found energies on my ever increasing, profoundly moving, soulful dreams.

I am grateful beyond words.

Book Review: This book is so awesome!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm only a little more than half way through the book and I've already gathered and donated 9 boxes of 'stuff' to Goodwill! This book is so motivating. Also, since Karen explains why people feel the need to keep clutter, I was able to realize that I didn't need a lot of my stuff after all. One of the things that really hit home for me was question #1 to ask yourself: Do I use it and do I love it? I looked around and thought, "NO" to a lot of things, so began throwing them in boxes. I thought, "If I don't use it and don't love it, why do I keep it?" I was finally able to let go of things I've kept for over 17 years.

I sent an email to some family members and friends telling them some of the things Karen wrote since we are all clutter-holics. Here was the response from my mother,

"Please send me the author and name of book the clutter info came from. I think it is very interesting. I had Thanksgiving with Dale. Both of us have moved into new places within the last year, and both of us have lots of clutter. I printed your email, and while she was cooking read it out loud. We both took it to heart, and laughed a lot too, cause she kept yelling, no, no, don't read anymore! It gave us both a lot to think about."

If you have clutter and are wanting a change...if you CAN'T let go of your stuff...buy this book. It will open your eyes and make you feel good for getting rid of those unwanted presents, clothes you no longer wear, etc. Highly recommended!

Book Review: Reaches most people, most of the time..10 years and going strong.
Summary: 5 Stars

I think clearing our clutter is personal. Books we look for have to touch us before it can motivate us. I read this book back in 2000, and it's still right for me today. Folks who aren't interested in Feng Shui or aren't open minded about learning it, should move on. This is not your book.

For me..a formerly divorced mother of four children, this book saved me mentally. It didn't teach me how to be a good parent, but how to look at myself differently and why I needed to let go of my clutter. The changes in my attitude took place slowly through the years after I initially cleared out my clutter. It's as if, my brain finally had room to think about what I was doing. I started keeping a cleaner and organized house, and recycled more. I didn't go through the colon cleansing part...but I did start to take better care of myself physically...which did make me a better mother in the end.

My children who are mostly adult now, do not clutter. It's miraculous. They have what they need, and use what they have. I can't say the book did this, but they learned something every time we worked as a family to decide what we needed to keep. Clearing my clutter is an on-going process, and I think about the basic concepts from this book each time I do it. My only regret is that I didn't have this book 20 years earlier.

The book changed my life, and it may change yours too.

Book Review: Cleared My Clutter
Summary: 5 Stars

...I am in the process of relocating back to my home in New York. Prior to reading this book, I dreaded packing for this move. When I got home the day I purchased the book, I began reading the first chapter. I was so amazed at what I was reading that I put the book down and began clearing out the clutter. I opened the boxes that I had already packed and went through them. After going through them again, ten boxes became four boxes, and it took off from there. I had paperwork from 1992 that I did not want to throw away because I knew that eventually I would need it. Guess what? I threw it all away. I thought that if I needed anything in the future, I could go on the Internet and get exactly what I am looking for, and it would be up-to-date. To make a long story short, this book has truly helped me get rid of things that I did not want to part with for whatever reasons, and I truly feel lighter in my heart for having done so. I am even sleeping better than I have in a long time. This book is excellent, and I believe it can truly help anyone put a new perspective on how to live a more fulfilling life just by getting rid of clutter, and putting things in the proper order.

Thank you so much for helping me to understand what clutter in you life can do to it, and how getting rid of clutter can open up a whole new world of possibilities for a brighter, happier future.

Book Review: This Book Helped Me
Summary: 5 Stars

Whether or not you are a practioner or believer in Feng Shui, this book is helpful. It's easy to read and makes you think. I have read it more than once and having lent it out on more than one occasion, find myself having to repurchase it because the people I lend it to love it so much. It is a good book to get you started in clearing out the clutter in your home & in your life. I didn't jump right in and create a perfect world for myself. But I did take the lessons to heart and started off slowly. I came to realize that my stuff was controlling me instead of the other way round. When I allowed myself to look at my belongings the way Ms. Kingston suggests, I was finally able to start clearing my home of the un-needed stuff & low energy. I have been working on this for a year now. And everytime I go through a certain part of my home, even if it is just to dust, I clear out even more. (I originally started as a way to eliminate dust collectors due to allergies). It has even helped me curb my spending habits. I need less space to live in now and have managed to tackle some other things that needed doing to help myself emotionally & physically. This book isn't a cure all, but it is a great way to get jumpstarted. I now keep more than 1 copy to give out to anyone who expresses an interest in how I helped myself find a better way of life.
