Book Reviews of Clapton: The Autobiography

Book Review: Clapton is humble, honest, and as good a person as he is a guitar player
Summary: 5 Stars

I was quite impressed with this autobiography and found it hard to put down. The next person I shared it with felt the same. Eric Clapton has never stopped growing, and his journeys have done far more than made him an amazing, perfectionist, soulful guitar player. They've taught him the true meaning of life, and he is still growing.

He's humble and breathtakingly honest about all of his flaws as he lived through them. The way he was able to step back into each period of his life and really feel it and get the reader to feel it alongside reminds me of how carefully he honed his craft of blues guitar while he was younger. He writes like he plays. He even made getting all the names and music people properly in the book where they belonged interesting, and I am one who usually skips over those parts in biographies as all the "hidden crediting" can be deadly dull. Not so here. Every page is part of the adventure.

Bravo, Mr. Clapton, for a life well lived and many lessons learned. And thank you for your music.

Book Review: Pretty hard to put down. It's a true tale of reformation.
Summary: 5 Stars

As one of greatest guitarists of the blues genre, Eric Clapton has a lot to tell in his 60+ years of life. Born to believe his mother was his sister and his grandparents were his parents, Clapton, as you'll find out, had quite the tragic life, despite his rich and famous life. A man addicted to hard drugs, alcohol, and infedelity, he eventually sobered up and became a father, only to lose his son in a terrible accident. Most of this autobiography is quite tragic, with the man's emotion seeming to come off from the words. I had a hard time putting it down, wondering what would happen next, and I'm not really a huge Clapton fan, though this book makes me want to listen to him more. In the end, however, he finally lives a happily married life with three daughters, and this gave me a feeling of comfort. Another great read for those who want to know more about their favorite rock stars.

Book Review: Insightful autobiography...
Summary: 5 Stars

I 'won' this book from ebay several months ago - I sought this book out after reading "Wonderful Tonight" by Pattie Boyd. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed reading this book. Assuming that Eric was being 'honest' throughout the book, it was quite insightful and a very interesting read. I would strongly encourage this book to anyone who is interested in music history/biographies. I am a Clapton fan, however I would also note that I only own greatest hits collections and his unplugged collection, I cannot even recall the last time that I pulled out one of his cd's, the point being that you don't need to be a huge fan to really enjoy this biography.

Book Review: Laying it all out there
Summary: 5 Stars

You are not going to come out of this reading in love with Eric Clapton (or perhaps you are--if blunt is your bag!). But you will have a much better sense of the man. I've been a fan most of my life - consequently this was not an easy read. Clapton manages to capture the brutality and banality of a life inflicted on him and by him in simple, straight on, well-structured prose. There is something ridiculously cathartic about the thing too - he comes through : ). My sense is that he tells his truth, and in that way, the book is beautifully done. Deeply introspective, reflective, and ultimately wise... this is a work to trust.

Book Review: we did it To-gether for Bodge!
Summary: 5 Stars

My friend Kevin and I finaly finished reading this great bio of Bodge 9whho is Clapton, peo-ple) and we did it together. Long into the night the two of us alternating chapters or paragraphs. We lived the triumph and joys and yes, the sorrow of Bodge! We even read part of it in his British accent!! And then did other accents because we are actor's! I read it as Neo from teh Matrix (duh!!!)! Sometimes after bodge disclose a secret me and Kevin would put the book down and disclose secreats about each other. Things we wanted only each other to know. Each other and Bodge
