Book Reviews of City of Bones (Mortal Instruments)

Book Review: double review of City of Bones and City of Ashes... no spoilers
Summary: 5 Stars

Rating: 5/5

My Double Review:

Occasionally, I'll find a book that immediately captures my interest. I'll pick it up and start reading, and just be hooked.

City of Bones was one of those books. From the very first chapter, I was intrigued. This series was unlike any other fantasy books I've ever read. I mean, come on... Shadowhunters? What the heck are those? Um, hello? Uniqueness! It's a great concept, and these novels have it all.

So I started reading, and I was interested. My first question was: who are the good guys and who are the bad guys? Every single character has an element of mystery to them; and while a lot of questions were cleared up, I still find that the depth of the characters extends beyond just good and bad. The characters are real, flawed, and none of them are perfect, even if they do happen to be on the "good" side.

And then I read further and I found myself genuinely caring about the characters and what happened to them. Believe me, I really got into it. At some point in time during the second book, I closed the book and couldn't read anymore, because I just couldn't stand the thought of something bad happening. I was borderline obsessed. I found myself caring about the characters, and also wanting to be in their world. This was one of the first times that I've found myself actually believing and hoping that it could be possible for a fantasy to be real. I mean, vampires? Whatever. Werewolves? Yeah, okay. But Shadowhunters? How cool would that be?! How fascinating.

I have a strange fascination with the Shadowhunters.

Just like how I find myself with a strange fascination with these novels. Which is perhaps why my review is so strange; these books are definitely at the top of my list, and I really recommend them to anyone.

Book Review: City of Bones....EPIC WIN!!

Wow! I can't believe the people who are giving this book one-star! I absolutely loved it! I found it through Twilight Moms in March, read it and couldn't wait to get to the store to buy City of Ashes. I think the characters are very evolved and have a lot of depth to them and the story is amazing.

I was looking for something to help deal with my Twilight addiction until Breaking Dawn came out and I was so glad to find this series. But I think I just found another addiction! And it helped to ease the pain of Breaking Dawn fail for me!

I would suggest that you go get these books as soon as possible!

Book Review: Plot twists that will leave you begging for more!
Summary: 5 Stars

Cassandra Clare's CITY OF BONES is a riveting story that I couldn't put down! From page one, I was completely ensnared. Clare creates a delectable tale full of twists and turns that even J.K. Rowling would be envious of.

CITY OF BONES begins in a club in New York names Pandemonium. There we meet Clary, short for Clarissa, and her best friend Simon. Clary is witness to a brutal murder, although she seems to be the only one who CAN see this killing out of an entire club packed with sweating dancers. This event is a catalyst that sends her life spiraling into a territory she never knew existed, and she will be surprised to find she is a major part of it.

Another interesting aspect is the obvious love triangle, but if one looks deep enough, it's actually a love square. (Pentagon if you count Magnus.) I love how Clare worked so much heartache and newfound love into the plot without making it seem overbearing.

Anyone who picks up CITY OF BONES is in for a thrill ride, jam packed with obstacles and impossibilities galore.

Book Review: amazing
Summary: 5 Stars

As previous reviewers have stated, there are quite a few similarities between this book and many others. However, I found myself forgetting about that as I read the book. I loved that it was witty, and that Jace (one of the main characters) was such a smartass, who kills demons, none the less. Guys in books don't get much better than that. But that's beside the point.

Before I actually read the book, I made the mistake of reading a City of Ashes review that ruined the big plot twist at the end of the book for me. Knowing that still didn't deter me from reading the book, although at times I was kind of grossed out.

All in all, I'm glad I purchased this book, contrary to the negative reviews.

Book Review: Twilight Moms, check this out
Summary: 5 Stars

I read reviews constantly on amazon.com, but have never written one. But I felt I had to add to this discussion because I feel some of the reviews for this book are far too negative, and might dissuade someone from reading a truly wonderful series. I almost didn't read this book because of said reviews, but as I received the second book in the series for free, I wanted to read the first book before I read the second book (City of Ashes, which is also wonderful). I am so glad I did. I love these characters and I love this series. To you other Twilight Moms, I highly recommend Clary and Jace as a balm for how must you must be missing Bella, Edward, and Jacob, as I was. I'm a 37 year old mom and I can't believe I have to wait until March when the third book (City of Glass) will be released. Try it, you won't be disappointed.
