Book Reviews of Chord ChemistryBook Review: Ted Greene, Guitar Genius Summary: 5 Stars
I own this book, as well as all of Ted's other books. When I lived near his hometown, I was even able to meet and study with Ted Greene. He is truly a guitar genius if ever there were one. His view of the guitar neck is unending and infinite. This book will present a challenge to even the most advanced players. It will be a little overwhelming at first for a beginner, but my advice is to stick in there and keep going...the best things in life take patience and practice. And this book will help you come up with many things to patiently practice. Check out a search using just his name, and you will find his other books. He also has an album on vinyl, but I don't know if it is on amazon.com, or released on CD. Ted is a true guitar genius. And a great guy to boot!
Book Review: Good Book for any Player Summary: 5 Stars
If you are looking at this book's reviews you have not heard enough about it to just buy it yet. The truth is this book is worth the money, In fact I have owned multiple copies of it and would pay more to make sure it is by my side. No matter what type of music you play or how good you are, how long you have been playing Ted Greene is a necessary resource in the world of guitar. I got my first copy of this book when I was 17 and will always own a copy. His other books are great as well but require more knowledge on theory than this. If you want to be more than just an intermediate guitarist buy his books and check out his web page. To Ted Greene, his family, all of his students, and anyone who helped with his books I must say thanks.
Book Review: Originality scores it a five Summary: 5 Stars
Anyone who has played guitar for any extensive amount of time knows that there are way too may chord encyclopedias and scale manuals out there. I wish I could give this chord -theory- book a 4.7 as some of the chords presented are nearly impossible to play. However, that is my only complaint. This book has easy to read chord diagrams and a really nice, comprehensive write up of HOW to use the chords effectively. The Chord Substitutions and Moving Voices sections are especially worthwhile. This is a book you'll probably read/use for a long time to come. I can't even imagine that Greene had all this stuff integrated into his playing. I am off to buy Greene's other harmony-based book, Modern Chord Progressions!
Book Review: Simply Stunning!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
One of the greatest books ever to focus on chords and there relation to each other.I was pointed in the direction of this book by no other than Steve Vai who recommended this book from his website,i have to say i thought i knew some chords untill i got this book. The possibilities with the voicings and inversions are endless. One of the things i like about this book in particular is that the specific chords are grouped together with numerous voicings.Everything is explained in tremendous detail,i think that's it!Go buy this book your chordal knowledge will be turned inside out.
Book Review: essential for any guitarist Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this book back in 1971 when I was a teenager taking guitar lessons from Ted at a small studio in the San Fenando Valley. Even though I play primarily blues and rock it's still tremendously helpful to know how to put together interesting chords. Many people think this is a jazz book, but it's a theory book. All genres of music can benefit from understanding theory. The book looks intimidating at first, but use Ted's first rule and be PATIENT, persist through the book, and you'll be the best guitarist on your block no matter what genre of music you play.
