Book Reviews of ChoicesBook Review: Finally!!!! Great Black Lesbian Book Summary: 5 Stars
Ok I must admit that I wasn't going to get this book at first because I had never heard of the author and because I'm usually disappointed by black lesbian books. But for a first time author, Skyy did the best job of writing about the life, better than any other lesbian writer I have read.
Her characters were so well rounded. I loved that she showed all sides of the life. We aren't all goal oriented like Denise, we aren't all hoes like Cooley. There are wonderful people like Nic and we all know there millions of women with self esteem issues like Carmen. I could almost point out characteristics in all characters in most of my friends.
This book made me laugh, cry, and want to hurt someone. It was amazing. I recommend that all women, not just lesbian, but ALL women read this amazing book. To me, this book is up there with E. Lynn Harris.
The only problems I found with the book are the same as the Apooo reviewer found. I think that the book setup wasn't very good. The words do sometimes get lost in the spine. For this to be such a good book it's a shame its with a small press that probably never will get it the recognition it truly deserves. This book should be a bestseller like E. Lynn. Skyy to me is the lesbian E. Lynn Harris.
Book Review: EXCELLENT READ - WORTH EVERY PENNY Summary: 5 Stars
First of all I would like to applaud the author and if this it truly her first novel I say keep at it. Unlike many of the first time authors I've read, this book has a plot that, although you see coming a mile down the road she makes it work. I especially like that she took the time to flesh out her characters and make them real and not some fairytale, everything works out in the end, Barbie and Kenya. I agree with another commenter in that everyone can identify with at least one of the characters in this book, be you black, white, gay, lesbian or straight. It deals with learning to love yourself for who you are and the fact that sometimes you have to let "love" go to truly find it.
The book revolves around three friends, Denise, Cooley and Carmen and while I liked and identified a little with both Denise's and Carmen's characters, I have to say that I enjoyed Cooley's character much more. Mainly because she was not afraid to live her life. I think we should all have a Cooley in our lives to make sure we never forget to actually enjoy the time God grants us. The book speaks about the bonds and families that are created not by blood but through trials, laughter, hurts, comforts, and unceasing love.
Book Review: HOT HOT HOT: Give me MORE Summary: 5 Stars
I took the time to read the reviews of this book before purchasing. At first I thought, "Wow could a lesbian novel really be that good." I hate to say it but I hadn't read many that were. However I was shut up quickly after reading the first page. I like many others on here could not put the book down. It was like someone glued it to my hands. However shame on you for leaving us hanging like that in the end, where is the sequel????
I literally have a friend just like each one of the characters, I have about 5 friends like Cooley (shame i know).
Listen to me people, you want to get this book. No other lesbian novel has made me want to write a review on Amazon. No other lesbian novel has made me want to buy the sequel. No other lesbian novel has left me thinking about it for days after I read it.
I agree with one of the other reviews, Skyy should be up there with E. Lynn. She is the lesbain E. Lynn.
Book Review: A Must Read!! Summary: 5 Stars
I absolutely love this book. I started reading it on Monday and finished on Tuesday night. I found myself lost in the world of the character like I was there and I could feel the pain of Carmen, feel the desire in Denise and Lena, I could feel the pain in Denise when she lost Mema. The emotions and the situations feels like that are based on a true story you can't help but feel what the characters feel. I have read a few books about lesbian women and this one seems to be the only one that has rang so true. It sheds light on how lesbian women are, and the things that we offend have to struggle with like the constant criticism in all social classes, finding love, trying to overcome personal battles. As soon as I read the last page of Choices I immediately picked up Consequences and I am so looking forward to this book. I'm glad I bought Choices and Consequences at the same time so I don't have to wait to find out what happens.
Book Review: I'm Straight but this book was AMAZING Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this book not knowing it was about lesbian relationships. I will admit the first page threw me for a loop but at the same time I wanted to continue reading. Before I knew it I was yelling at Carmen and Lena and I was wondering why aren't there any men like NIc and Denise. And Cooley....Well I know a few men who are just like her.
Although it was about lesbian women I found myself lost in the characters. I fell in love with the characters to the point that their sexuality meant nothing at all. This was an amazing book.
Kudos to Skyy. I never in a million years thought I would love a lesbian book...I recommend this to anyone, gay straight or in between.
And I also agree...I'm ready for part 2.
