I initially ordered two (2) books from Amazon.com. This book was excellent, which they sent me two (2) copies of and billed me for two copies also. The other book, "Chicken Coops, 45 Building Plans For Housing Your Flock" turned out to be a total sham. There were several interesting coops, however, there were no "Plans" except for the most basic of information. I was angry about my order, since I was sent two copies of the same book, and canceled "Amazon Prime" the same day I received my order. To add insult to injury, my bank account was charged $79.00 three days ago for a program that I opted not to receive the same day I received my order.
The second book, "Chickens In Your Backyard" had a wealth of information and also offered some very important advice for building Chicken Coops. If you're new to raising chickens, then this book would be a "must-read" publication for those of us that are just beginning to raise our own flocks. Find a reputable company to purchase these books, otherwise you'll wind-up like me - out over a hundred dollars for a twelve or thirteen dollar book.

If any book ever lived up to its title, it's this one. CHICKENS IN YOUR BACKYARD: A BEGINNER'S GUIDE describes backyard flockkeeping in a simple, entertaining manner. Other books are more comprehensive, but their sheer size tends to make their material hard to absorb. They also cost twice as much.If you're interested in keeping a small home flock, start with this book. If you're interested in a small commercial flock, start with PASTURED POULTRY PROFITS.
Book Review: Good beginner book

This is a good book for the beginner or for anyone who wants to try incubating chicks. It's not much on the illustrations of the different breeds, but it's still enjoyable.
If you're looking for a beginner's book with lots of info on all the various breeds, it isn't this book. This goes more into the very basic; raising of mail order chicks, incubating, coops, showing chicks, etc.
