I'm not a great chess player and don't even have a rating. for now my goal is to defeat my dad, who's not a chess lover, but a good chess player nevertheless. I'm about half way through with this book, and I already think it's good.
This book covers not only the basic rules, but also opening, middle, and end game strategy, with hundred's of great games demonstrating his point. Even though it may be a little hard to understand, it clearly states the points he's trying to make, and is truly a wise teacher who's not alive.
This book is worth every cents of it.

The ability to make appropriate plans produces a more purposeful, effective and stronger chess player. But finding the right plan requires a correct evaluation of the position, which can be done only with knowledge and understanding of the principles of chess strategy. This practical guide will enable the tournament player to recognise the key strategic features of a position, such as advantages in time or space; strengths and weaknesses of the respective pawn formations; mobility, vulnerability, coordination and comparative values of individual pieces. Separate chapters are dedicated to the opening, middlegame and ending. The significance of various kinds of exchanges and positional sacrifices are also detailed and special attention is paid to the need for flexibility and versatility when making plans - or multi-plans.Chess Books
