Book Review: Kindle Formatting Problem

There is a severe formatting problem with the Kindle edition of this title: two blank lines appear after every paragraph break. This causes the text to use far more screen space than it should. Long sections of dialogue -- one of Herbert's most distinctive characteristics -- often display as disjointed individual sentences; it's easy to lose track of who is speaking to whom. The Kindle editions of other titles in the Dune series, such as Heretics of Dune and Paul of Dune, display correctly.
The premise behind the Kindle is that it's a book in another form. Or, as the promo promises,
"The most elegant feature of a physical book is that it disappears while you're reading. Immersed in the author's world and ideas, you don't notice a book's glue, the stitching, or ink. Our top design objective is to make Kindle disappear -- just like a physical book -- so you can get lost in your reading, not the technology."
Not so with this Kindle title. The formatting error detracts from the reading experience rather than enhances it. The problem lies with the text, not with the Kindle. Oh, some of the "usual" Kindle quirks are present as well: seemingly random hyphens, italics turning on and off in mid-word (especially noticeable in the "excerpts" that begin each chapter), etc. Those I've learned to live with. It's a shame that the physical appearance of this title doesn't match the others in the series.
