Book Review: A Range of Great Arrangements

In my persuit of "Celtic Guitar" I have bought several books with arrangements of traditional tunes and I have to say that, not only was this one of the best, but it was also a pleasant surprise. I question whether there is someone interested in Celtic guitar who is resistant to alternate tunings, but if you are then this book is not for you as it contains NO songs in standard tuning. What makes this book so great is the "guitaristic" or approachable nature of the arrangements. In general I find that many books contain arrangements that are either too simplisitic to sound good or too complex for their own good. This book has found that middle path! Wonderful, lush, arrangements that are each performance quality. The selection is nice too with some standards of the genre interspersed with some lesser known gems. I wish I had had this book years ago.

Each amazingly accessible, yet truly beautiful arrangement was transcribed by Jim Tozier himself. The included full performance CD is so stunning that it alone is worth the price.
