Book Reviews of Catering to Nobody (Goldy, Book 1)Book Review: Coziness, Good Food, A Young Son, Colorado - What More Could You Ask For? Summary: 5 Stars
I don't know where to start to sing this book's praises! This is a fun, entertaining, well-written book. All the clues and all the pieces perfectly fit together!
This is the first book of the Goldy Catering Series. Goldy and her eleven-year-old son are the main characters. Goldy is a caterer. Arch is in the sixth grade. Things happen (I do not want to ruin the book, so I will not say what), so Goldy is forced to temporarily shut down her catering business. This is a cozy, catering series, so of course there is delectible food and recipes. The book also takes place in October, so of course, Halloween is near! The book is so fun! But there are serious aspects of the book, too. Arch is going through a lot, and so is Goldy.
The characters are well-developed.
I especially loved the page that described Arch's sixth grade classroom. Goldy said "a 6th grade room near Halloween" or something like that. It brought back memories of my own children's classrooms during Halloween when they were little. I love Halloween, and I love children; therefore, that was a really cozy page!
I think this first book "Catering to Nobody" was published around 1990, and I think the series is still going strong. I had already read "Dying for Chocolate".
Colorado! I saved that part for last. This book takes place in beautiful Colorado. It felt so cozy just because it was in small town Colorado (in addition to all the other cozy aspects). I actually "felt" like I was in Colorado. The small town descriptions were perfect. It felt so homy and cozy. And since Colorado is my new favorite state, I enjoyed the book that much more. Oh, the book was awesome even without its geography. But Colorado added so much more coziness and beauty to it.
