Book Reviews of Carrie's Story: An Erotic S/M NovelBook Review: The Alternate World Summary: 5 Stars
Carrie is an attractive, young graduate student in Comparative Literature at Berkeley. She meets Jonathan, a somewhat older, very successful architect at a party in San Francisco, where he invites her to become his slave. After a period of disbelief, Carrie ultimately accepts his offer and enters the world of "porntopia" in which the rules of Domination and submission hold sway. Her story of the training of a submissive, of the canings, whippings, bondage, anal dildos and ownership papers, describes clearly a world of which the average person is completely unaware. For those in the D/s lifestyle, this is an erotic and well told story of that secret world that stretches from exhibitions and ponygirl training in Marin, to the auction block in some northern European city, where Carrie is auctioned off to a new owner for one year of service. The book is highly recommended to those who are curious about this alternate world.
Book Review: It's About Not Going to the Movies Summary: 5 Stars
I thought thrice before committing myself to 5 stars, and decided that given the genre of erotica/pornography, the book is worth it. It's a wonderful read about a woman's adventure of self-discovery in the world of dominance/submission and s&m. It's thoroughly entertaining as porn, but with the sorts of fleshed out individuals and, particularly in Carrie's character, the kind of emotional honesty seldom explored in the genre. Weatherfield is clearly well read, and there are clever literary allusions and jokes for those with the eyes to see; and some lovely sophisticated ironies that will provoke the occasional knowing smile in the reader. But most important: It's creative and delicious erotica. I can't wait for the sequel to find out what the next set of pit stops will be on what I take to be Carrie's dilated journey towards love.
Book Review: Great Read for Lifestyle Folks Summary: 5 Stars
While I am no self-inflated intellectual trying to critique this story, it's sentence structure or otherwise, I will agree with others that this is one "hot" read. I am a full time, lifestyle D/s person and these scenarios [or ones similar] happen all over this country. [Trust me.] This sub-culture is not often written about or depicted accurately and I do believe that this author captures some of Carries mental "processes", as they truly occur real-time. There are some amazing parallels in this story that perhaps are missed by "vanilla" folk, perhaps not of this ilk entirely, or perhaps just newly embarking on their own personal journey. In any case, the story is believable, familiar and lovely. It's sequel is well done, but perhaps not as enticing as this novel.
Book Review: *THE* S/M Erotic Novel You Must Read Summary: 5 Stars
The best S/M erotic novel I have EVER read--complex, empathetic characters, decent plot, and the hottest scenes ever. It's a thinking woman's S/M story, not a romance, though a love relationship does develop, a nicely realistic one, not a stereotypical one like you might find in hundreds of more common stories. If you like spanking and BDSM stories with strong, unusual characters, you simply must read this book.
I can't believe some people gave it one star. There's no accounting for tastes, I guess.
I've just ordered the sequel, "Safe Word," and have high hopes for it.
Book Review: A Masterpiece!!! Summary: 5 Stars
From the first sentence of 'Carrie's Story', I was hooked. I read the entire book in a couple of hours. I just could not put it down! I was a bit skeptical about the 'pony play' section the book, but this was not a large part of the story, and it was written in a very classy and interesting way. It was not as steamy as I thought it may be, but it was so compelling. As soon as I shut the book, I came onto Amazon to order the sequal. I cannot wait to read it!!! I highly recommend this book!!
