Book Reviews of Caroline Myss' Essential Guide for HealersBook Review: excellent Summary: 5 Stars
This CD set changed the way I view my profession and gave me the answers I was searching for for years. Her myths of the healer was eye opening and her approach to burn out is going to save me tons of frustration. Because of Caroline I can relax and do my job with compassion but not let it take it's toll on me. I thank her for that.
Book Review: Straight forward and just plain good! Summary: 5 Stars
I loved this series. Caroline Myss has a way of putting things that just make sense. There is good information in this series even if you haven't ever thought of yourself as someone in the healing arts or as a healer. I would encourage everyone to listen to them!!!
Book Review: A valuable guide for healers... Summary: 4 Stars
For those that consider them self a healer; aspire to be a healer; training to be a healer; or are not sure what a healer is... I believe this audio book will be of great value to you.
Caroline explores many of the myths, issues, challenges, and important understandings that I am sure all healers will face, experience or deal with a some stage in their career. Her no-nonsense approach is clear and concise.
This work is very much a "guide". It is not a manual. It is not an instructive work. It does not teach you how to heal or be a healer. Rather it is a general guide to those that work in or wish to work in this field. It is a guide that will assit a healer to be better at what they do. What will also become apparent to those who listen to this work is just how broad the field of the healer really is. From human health through to the health of a corporation... healers have a role in a wide cut of society. Caroline's elaboration on this may be helpful to those who have struggled to identify their mode of healing.
I know many healers, some who are very experienced and established in their field, teaching other's to be healers. As I listed to this excellent guide I was constantly aware of just how much this information would benefit these healers that I know personally. Caroline directly addresses many of the issues that I see these healers struggling with for various reasons.
Disc 1 explores the "Archetype of the healer": Addresses topics such as "Healers as spiritual midwives", "The myth of the wounded healer", "How do you know if you called to be a healer", and "Knowing your own motivations".
Disc 2 explores "The Shadow side of the healer": Topics such as "It's a shadow perspective to see disease as an enemy", "Offering your best without attachment to the outcome", "Symptoms of psychic burn-out" (important for most healers), "The suffering healer"... etc
Disc 3 explores "Healthy Self-Esteem and the Art of Healing". This disc often had me thinking of healers I know that are struggling in one way or another... what Caroline covers on this disc is a very important contribution to the art of healing.
Disc 4 explores "Advice for the developing healer": Topics like "What type of healer are you?", "Spirituality, money, gender, and right livelihood", "Psychic boundaries", "The role of the healer in the larger world"... and more.
This disc, like all of them, also contains a great deal of information that I am sure will be of value to most healers... both established healers and those that are in the early stages of exploring this vocation.
UPDATE: APRIL 2010: I still refer inwardly to much of what I listened to in this Essential Guide, and it is quite some years since I listened to it. To me that is a good testament in itself about the value of this audio book by Myss.
I wish you all the best of health,

Book Review: K.C., just your typical, throw- away massage therapist... Summary: 4 Stars
I typically enjoy Myss' work. This one stung a little I must say. She almost seemed angry at parts, but she regained her composure by realligning her chakras. *whew* Seriously, she has a strong opinion about "healers" and everyone else who is just a wanna-be. I did benefit and recieved valuable information about my craft as well as the person I am and want to grow to be. She definetly makes you look deep with in yourself and ask some serious questions, along with knocking anyone and everyone from their high horse. My horse thanks you Ms. Myss. I'll be in the corner, wiping my tears and trying to reallign my chakras....
Book Review: Really helpful! Summary: 4 Stars
This is a real world view of what it means to be a healer, how to take care of yourself and keeping yourself (or your ego) in check. It contains both practical and spiritual aspects of the healing professions, and some things you don't expect to hear. Overall, I found it very helpful and am glad I purchased it!
