Book Reviews of Can You Keep a Secret?Book Review: I can't keep this secret any longer... Summary: 5 Stars
Sophie Kinsella's "Can You Keep A Secret" is SIMPLY DELIGHTFUL. From word one to the end.
Laugh out loud hilarious. Fast and furious pace. Quirky and endearing characters.
The lead Emma is a warm and perfectly flawed character:}
You will cheer for her, hurt for her and shake you head in bewilderment at her not so bright moves:}
Kinsella, has such a gift for pacing. Just when you are laughing uproariously, she throws in an "ohmigod that is so true to life moment", that she takes your breath away.
Emma, has a problem telling people the truth about even the smallest things. She isn't dishonest, she just hates hurting people's feelings. That philosophy eventually backfires spectacularly on her when she meets a stranger on a plane and spills her guts about
her secrets, out of nervous fear as the plane experiences technical problems.
The man, in one of those curves life throws at you, turns up at her work soon after and from there it is just a great roller-coaster of wonderful-readable story, skilled writing and absopositutely great reading entertainment.
I am hooked on author Sophie Kinsella.
She is right up there with Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Jennifer Weiner for talented, thoughtful authors, who draw characters you can really care about. The kind for me, I always hope for a sequel as I close the book. Or wish I could have a cup of coffee with them.
Don't keep this book or Sophie Kinsella a secret, tell your book buddies about her.
Book Review: Not to be missed--Sweet, hilarious audiobook Summary: 5 Stars
I am trying to remember the last time I laughed, so hard that tears streamed down my face, while listening to a book. Hmmm... nope, can't think of another book that made me laugh like this while I listened to it.
Kate Reading's performance has to be one of the absolute best I have ever listened to. Her timing and voicings are spot on. She perfectly captures the hapless optimism of Kinsella's heroine, Emma Corrigan, a junior assistant at Panther Cola Company, who is striving to earn a promotion.
While returning from a business trip to Scotland, Emma's worst flying fears are realized when the plane hits a terrible patch of turbulence. Panic stricken, she begins to blab a stream of consciousness, divulging her secret hopes, wishes, transgressions and fears to the man sitting next to her in business class.
The next day she discovers this man is Jack Harper, the owner and founder of Panther Cola when he arrives at her office on a corporate visit. To her horror, he seems to remember every single thing she told him. Emma's life is complicated enough with a boyfriend she doesn't really love, two roommates -- one, a lawyer and the other, a scary fashionista-man-hunting socialite, as well as parents who don't seem to love her and a grandfather who does.
Kate Reading hits exactly the right tone for Emma, her flatmates, Jack and her family. The story has great humor and a sweet pathos that was a perfect listen.
Book Review: A fun, entertaining book that cheers you up! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first book by Sophie Kinsella, and was highly recommended by the kind staff at my local bookstore.
Frankly I have doubts when I bought the book, because I am more into historical romances, but since the staff was so kind and enthusiastic I thought I'll just give it a try.
Boy! How glad I am to try it out. This is the most hilarious book I've read in recent years! Emma is just so endearing and real, with all her secrets and whims and insecurities. And isn't Jack the most endearing kind tender smart boyfriend one could ever have? This is definitely not a pure romance book, and there's no angst, mysteries or mind boggling plot etc. The characters are all our everyday people, the usual behaviors and relationship, people like Emma's roommates, colleagues and even the juice bar guy.
If you want big heart wrenching intelligent book, this is not for you. But if you are into lighthearted reading, something to cheer you up, this is it. But don't get me wrong, even though it is meant for light reading, it is NOT those where you read and throw and forget, I find myself re-reading the little scenes again and again, just to get a good laugh again.
Book Review: Great for laughter Summary: 5 Stars
Normally, I only want to read romance novels. This is not a romance novel. There are no intimate love scenes. This is a cross between chick lit and romantic comedy. I loved it, because I laughed so much. At first I did not like reading about Emma, who was in the habit of telling lies. She lied for many reasons including office politics and politeness. However, once Jack entered the picture at her office, it became hilarious. Her white lies made great comedic material. I didn't want to put it down. After I read the book, I went back and reread all of the Jack conversations. I loved the twinkle in his eyes as Jack asked Emma questions in front of other people, and as she answered the questions with lies, she knew that he knew she was lying.

Book Review: Fast Easy Reading Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not much of a reader, so you must imagine how scared I was when I saw the size of the book. I started reading and I could not put this book down. I read it in less than a day and when I finished I couldn't stop thinking about the book and its great ending.
It's about a woman named Emma that goes on a business trip to Glasgow and on her way back she meets a man on the airplane to whom she tells all her secrets to when there's a lot of turbulence on the plane and she believes he'll be the last person she'll ever see. She thinks that she'll never see this man again, luckily, but to her surprise it turns out to be her boss.
I laughed out loud and I felt her anxiety when she was nervous. The book has great imagery and I can assure you won't be wasting your time reading it.
