Book Reviews of Bunny Cakes (Max & Ruby)Book Review: Delightful from beginning to end Summary: 5 Stars
As a parent, this may very well be my favorite bedtime story. Don't judge the book based on the TV show-- it is much better! Max and Ruby are making birthday cakes for Grandma. Max is making an earthworm cake but Ruby wants to make an angel surprise cake with rasbery fluff frosting. Despite Ruby's increasingly restrictive instructions, Max keeps knocking her ingredients off the table, and Ruby keeps sending him to the store with a shopping list for replacements. Max wants red hot marshmellow squirters to top off his cake, and his attempts to communicate this to the grocer make up the heart of the story.
The illustrations are delightful and are cleverly incorporated as part of the story. My 3 year old loves this book, and believe it or not he gets tired of it before I do!
Book Review: Funny Bunny Summary: 5 Stars
How great to have a really "funny" book for little listeners to enjoy. In fact, my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter has requested the story so many times that she now can "read" it herself, as she has it memorized and she giggles all the way through it. Ruby and Max do all the things that little people can relate to when trying to bake cakes for grandmother's birthday. Broken eggs, spilled milk, and flying flour are exactly the perfect recipe for pre-schoolers. And what little boy wouldn't love to make an earthworm cake with caterpiller icing! I'm somewhat hoping that I don't get one for my birthday. This book is a treasure!
Book Review: Another great one from Rosemary Wells Summary: 5 Stars
We are a great fan of Rosemary Wells books, they are hilarious and my kids from 1 1/2 up to 9 always laugh their head off because Max and Ruby are so funny, especially Max. It makes for great reading time. We have added just about everyone of her books to our collection. If you want to add a good one to make your little ones laugh add this title or any of the other titles to your collection. I guarantee your family will get as hooked on her books as we did.
Book Review: Red Hot Marshmallow Squirters? Summary: 5 Stars
I love Max and Ruby, way before they were on TV. "Bunny Cakes" is one of my favorites. Rosemary Wells uses such simplistic words and phrases yet they are eloquently written.
Ruby's making Grandma a birthday cake and Max decides to make one, too...from dirt and worms. But his cake is missing something: Red Hot Marshmallow Squirters.
See how Max finally gets them and then wonder: Which cake will Grandma eat first?
Book Review: Easy to Memorize Summary: 5 Stars
My almost-three-year-old son asks for this book most nights. He now knows how to spell (and because of this, knows the letters that make them up) the words 'eggs, milk, & flour,' and we both have it memorized. I feel Ms. Wells' humor and writing style grows on the reader after multiple tellings. The story encourages parent/child discussion after reading, and inspires a little kitchen experimentation as well.
