Book Reviews of Buddhism Plain and SimpleBook Review: Goes to the Essence of Buddhism, Without Frills Summary: 5 Stars
Forgive my lack of originality, but I believe the review by Robert Pirsig presented on the book cover says it best:
"This is the clearest and most precise exposition of Buddhism I have ever read. If you're looking for enlightenment rather than just scholarly knowledge, you'd better read this."
I can only add that this book is best read many times, and slowly each time, taking care to really explore and ponder its messages.
Very highly recommended for anyone interested in spiritual growth.
Book Review: Nice work Steve! Summary: 5 Stars
Steve Hagen does a good job in this book explaining Buddhism in the most plain and simple ways possible. Being rather knowledged on Buddhism it didn't teach me much, however I wish I would have had his book years ago when I first started studying Buddhism. I purchased my copy used and a previous owner had found it to be quite informative as well, many many sections are underlined or bulleted or circled. I recommend this book to anyone who wishes to learn about Buddhism. Great work Mr. Hagen.

Book Review: A truly remarkable book. Summary: 5 Stars
In Buddhism: Plain and Simple, Steve Hagen has managed to capture the complexity of Buddhist practice without pushing the reader away with jargon, dogma, or judgment. He writes with beautiful simplicity and great empathy about the challenges of living fully when our mind does not necessarily want to cooperate! I have read this book several times and learn something each time. I would say that this book and The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying form a wonderful introduction to Buddhist practice and philosophy.
Book Review: A title that matches the contents of the book. Summary: 5 Stars
"Consciousness is nothing more than the splitting of Reality into this and that. Consciousness is making distinctions and drawing lines." This quote is an example of the writing style of Steve Hagen. In the book, "Buddhism Plain and Simple" this writing style provides the basics of Buddhism without the clutter of cultural overlays. Beautifully presented concepts, ideas and examples are given in a deep and thoughtful manner - perfect for multiple readings and discussions. Read and enjoy.
Book Review: It just makes sense - Not a religious book Summary: 5 Stars
If you are ready, you won't be able to put it down. Open your mind and read it -- A quick read and your life will be changed forever. It is a good value. You will read it again and again any time your life or thinking gets out of sorts.
One Caution. If you are like myself and others I know, this book can get expensive. I bought 1 then bought and gave away 6 then 12 then 18. Gave one to Ed he bought 6 to give away, then 12 then 18, gave one to another, he bought and then gave away 12 then 24
