Book Reviews of Brian's WinterBook Review: Bria'ns Winter Summary: 5 Stars
Brian's Winter is a book based on a real life situation. If you like to read realistic and survival books, Brian's Winter is a great book for you! Brian Robeson is a 13-year-old boy and is stuck in the wilderness for over 4 months because his plane crashed. All he is left with is the emergency pack from the plane and his thoughts and ways of surviving. Hunting, building shelter and a fire, making clothing out of animal skin, making better bows and arrows, listening to natures signals, and playing the visiting game, are all ways this thirteen year old boy survives. Coming up with the "visiting game" was very clever for Brian to do. When playing the visiting game you are to imagine that a relative, friend, spouse, rock star, whoever, is in front of you. You then talk to them and tell them how you are feeling and what is going through your mind at that time. I think this was very helpful to Brian because it helped him cope with what he was going through. Being at the age 13, and stuck in the wilderness all alone may lead to some difficulties as well. Brian often makes the mistake by ignoring nature's calls. The weather often changes and Brian notices it, but doesn't really do much about it. He also makes the mistake of trying to become friends with some of the animals. He makes one friend named Betty, she's a skunk and then tries to make another friend, but this is a big mistake. Brian tries to become friends with a bear and it doesn't work out the way he wants it to. Brian also makes the mistake by trying to build a fire in his shelter when it is airtight. On a scale from 1-10, I rate this book a 9. It gives you a lot of details of what Brian sees, feels, hears, and different conflicts Brian has. It just amazes me how a 13-year-old boy can think of so many different ways to survive on his own. What would you do if you were stuck in the wilderness?
Book Review: Gary paulsen Brian's Winter Summary: 5 Stars
Ryan L.
I've never been to the Canada. But Gary Paulsen's Brian's Winter made feel if I had been there for a long cold winter. Brian was a survivor of a plane crash and he had to survive the whole winter. The story is told by Brian. This story is Realistic fiction because this can happen to any person. Brain remembers all his family back home and how he dealt with Canadian Wilderness. The author is trying to teach is that you can survive anything that comes your way.
Hunting and cooking were a major point in Brian's winter. Brain was always fixing all his tools. In the book Brian made a big bow and little bow for arrow shooting. The reason for making the bows because when he was shooting his gun that he found in the airplane that his gun broke. He killed a lot of animals like rabbits, fool birds, mooses, and also a deer.
Warmth and shelter were also another main aspect in this book. He also always described all things in his shelter When he was eating in his warm shelter he said All I need is some barbecue sauce," he said grease dripping down his chin. "And a coke." (86, Paulsen). He was missing his normal food.
He also befriended a skunk named Betty. He didn't like to kill the animals but he had to do it. He always had to think about his family He got sad sometimes. But there is a problem how will he survive.
This is a great book and highly recommend this book to any who likes adventure books. Brain is the reason I liked this book. His voice got me into the book. He also describes all the stuff in his shelter. He all describes the surrounding all around. But there weren't any reasons I didn't like book. Gary Paulsen was born on May 17, 1939. He started to read at a young age.
Book Review: Brains Winter Summary: 5 Stars
Brain's winter, by Gary Paulsen was about a boy named Brian Robeson. Brian was on his way to visit his father for the summer and his plane crashed killing the pilot, and stranding Brian in the wilderness alone. Brain got the necessary materials and survived during the summer. Now winter is coming, can Brian survive the bitter cold of the winter? Brian had his ups and his downs during the winter. Brian had to figure out how to make several different tools to survive such as a bow and arrow, all types of clothes, a lance, and snowshoes. Brain also had a few life and death encounters. A bear came to his camp twice and he probably would have been killed if it weren't for his pet skunk. He was also attacked by a moose that he was trying to hunt and barely survived that. He was also almost killed by an exploding tree, due to the bitter cold weather, that he was standing by and a huge sliver just missed his head. He also had to go out in the freezing cold to hunt and find firewood. I enjoyed this book for several reasons and they are once you get started reading this book you don't want to stop. You read one chapter and want to go on to the next to find out what will happen next. Another reason I enjoyed this book was because of the fact that that he was stranded in the wilderness and I like to camp and can relate to him a little. If I had to rate this book on a scale from one to ten I would give it an eight because it was interesting and existing, but I did not like the ending. It didn't give enough information or background. I would recommend this book to anyone because it is a must read for all readers. Over all it is a really good book and keeps you on the end of your seat wanting to know what will happen next.
Book Review: Brians Winter Summary: 5 Stars
Brian winter is a good book. Brian is thirteen years old he was in an airplane crash in Canada. Brian is the only one who survived. He only has a first aid kit, broken gun, hatchet and matches. He has to survive on his own he needs a shelter and some clothes and food. He also needs to make stronger weapons. If he wants to hunt bigger game. He uses the entire animal he doesn't let anything go to waste. He uses animal skin to make clothing and also to make some of his weapons. He finds lots of friends and enemies one of his friends is Betty the skunk. She protected Brian from the bear attack and Brian is very great full. Brain feels very lonely and he is starting to forget his family. He also miss them very much. What I liked most the book had lot of very good descriptions of the forest and how he was breathing and how he liked the animals. Also this book can help you learn how to survive in the wilderness. As well in some of the chapter the author keep you hanging at the end of the chapter. The part that I thought was cool was when the trees were exploding and Brian thought it was gunshots. I thought this book was good I would rate it 4 out of 5 because the book was exiting and suspenseful. Like in this one chapter Brian got attached by a bear the author said that the bear was thrashing throw out the cave (brains home). There was also a part were Brian killed an animal and then the author made it so visual he said that the arrow went threw the moose then the moose started to charge at him and then Brian pulled out his lance and the moose ran on to it and the moose hit heads with Brian and Brian passed out.I thought the author did a good job on this book.
Book Review: great book!! Summary: 5 Stars
Author: Gary Paulsen By: Regina Distasio Date: 04/30/03 The book that I have been reading is called Brian's Winter. The book is written by Gary Paulsen. The book is about a thirteen-year-old boy named Brian Robeson who has been stranded in the Canadian wilderness all by him self with out any food or clothing to keep him alive. Brian had become his own worst enemy because in all the business of hunting fishing and surviving he hade forgotten the primary rule always pay attention to what is happening. Brain got in a plane crash and when the plane had crashed he was the only one that was out in the wilderness and now he had to be all by himself and try to make the best out of it and he had to hunt for food in order to stay alive. Sometimes Brian would go without days of eating and now he really had to think to himself that he had to get started hunting. And even though it was still summer soon or a later the winter would be coming and if he does not have any food he would die and it is going to be much harder in the winter to hunt for food. Do you think that Brian is going to make it through all by him self? I enjoyed reading this book because I thought that it was very interesting learning about a boy that was only thirteen years old and had no idea what was going on and he had to make it through the days and nights all by himself. If anyone were to ask me if they should read this book, I would say yes because it was action packed. The rating that I would give the book is a ten because its kept my interested and tells you about life and how you can survive if it means living or dying.
