Book Review: For the faint of heart.
Summary: 4 Stars
My first reaction to this book is its association with the movie starring Audrey Hepburn. While the movie does a great job remaining faithful to Capote's original story, I would have to say that the book is much better (as is the case with many novel-based movies).
Breakfast at Tiffany's, the novel, is a story narrated by 'Fred' of a young socialite who is afraid to surrender herself to anything or anyone. Her relationships are short lived, and vulnerability is as welcome as a cockroach. She is constantly on her feet looking for her true home i.e. a place where she does not feel at all vulnerable. Of course, there is no place, no relationship in which one can submit to without risking pain.
Capote paints a beautifully realistic and witty account of home, relationships, fear, love, and individuality through his subtleties.
I would highly recommend this book to Salinger lovers and 'the faint of heart.'
